No, I did hear stories earlier about Scottish origins - but the only thing I would say is that we hanged our monkey for different reasons. Only she knows about the Scottish link to its origins, but we're going to be the reason why the tale is famous.

I was going to get shirty about the emphasis on it being a Teeside legend but checked on Google earth as to where the borough boundary is and sure enough there is a small length of boundary which runs down the middle of the Tees estuary.

So I suppose strictly speaking it is Teeside but not as Teeside as they're making out in that article I wouldn't have thought

I could have told them that, it's been displayed as having Aberdonian origins from the outset at the Museum of Hartlepool.

POK - we didn't hang any monkey, sorry to disappoint you.

Well someone from West Hartlepool wouldn't technically be a 'Monkey Hanger' as it apparently happened on the Headland.

I know it was Wessies were what the East Germans or East Berliners called the West Germans or West Berliners when they didn't see eye to eyes as they hated each other.

Presumably pronounced "vessies", which would mean what in French, Mr Frenchstudent?
