Can any one tell me how to stop the cursor auto selecting an item that it may be left howeving over without clicking the mosue pad on my new Vista laptop - I'm sick of being taken off to other pages or sites whilst trying to read pages

Many latops have a function button for enabling/disabling the mouse pad. On mine it's the FN key + F9. Hope this helps.

Well if you're reading and your cursor is hovering you don't need it enabled dooo ya.
A single keystroke switches it back on you know.

A better solution is don't use Vista, though I think the problem here might not lie with Miscrofot (for once).

You can disable this "hovering over" by going to "Control Panel -> Ease of Access Center -> Make the mouse easier to use" & uncheck the "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse" checkbox

hope this helps :)

It is a characteristic of the 'single-click' behavior you choose in Control Panel/Folder Options.

"Single click to open an Item (point to select)"

On your touchpad properties, have you got the tap pad to click enabled.

If so, then the sensitivity of this could be causing a problem.

Turn this off, if it works tun it back on with sensitivity adjusted accordingly.

Other than that, have just had any other mouses (mice?) installed on the laptop? It shouldn't matter, but you never know. Try reinstalling your touchpad, but be careful!
