wireless internet help

We have had the wireless connection for a while now, but i'm pretty sure it's not secure.
Can anyone tell me an easy way to secure the wireless connection. I've noticed a few of the neighbours with laptops recently and i'm hoping they are not connected through my connection

what type of router are you using? make and model?
