...start using public transport when the new interchange (a glorified lay-by with a few useless bus shelters) opens ...? What planet do planners live on if they think I'm gonna use my car less because they've decided to erect this so called interchange (it is NOT a bus staion) somewhere that is next to nothing apart from the railway station, where train services have been cut by 50% since the harebrained idea was dreamt up...Nobody gets off a train and goes for a bus, I can vouch for it as I pick my daughter up from there every night at varying times.
This place will be a tumbleweed blown waste of spce and the shelters be nothing more than urinals for the weekend drinkers.
Pity they couldn't be arsed to build a proper one in Park Road next to the shopping centre where the old people could have waited in comfort, they'll just have to carry on getting soaked in state of the art bus shelters that are glorified advertising hoardings and give no shelter whatsoever......
.... mind you, the old folk could cross over several roads to get to new 'interchange'...... as if.

I occasionally use the train to Billingham for work when I'm on nights, but it doesn't get me there on time for day shift. The first train to Billingham from Hartlepool sets off 45 minutes after the start of my shift.    stpid stpid stpid
I cannot believe there are not more people who need to get to Billingham, Stockton or Middlesbrough from here to get to work. I'd get shot of my car if they had the train service, because it's only £2.60 day return - but they don't , and even if they did, I wouldn't trust them not to cut services so long as the transport network is privatised.

Funny thing is, I only bought a car full time when Stagecoach took over the buses, couldn't get a bus to work and it got to the stage where it was cheaper to get a taxi than me and the wife and kids go on the bus.

Anyone remember the Cerebos special? I used to get that on a morning; I worked at ICI and it continued on to Billingham and prolly Stockton too.
It was ALWAYS full to the gunwales with lasses working at Greatham.

I used to get the "23 Workmen" bus to BSC's delightful 44" Pipe Mill from 1982-87 inclusive![/quote]I remember getting the 23 into the works, very dodgy on a icy winters morning on a double decker loaded to the limit and a loony driver taking that sharp turn into the entrance in Brenda Road at speed and seeing how far it would 'lean'.... how it never turned over I don't know

Let's see, served my time and went to the 'Planning dept'... be about 78, it was starting to fade a bit then.......... an absolute shit hole of a place and dangerous as fook, I wouldn't let a rat work there.... Yup, it was brilliant  I remember a mutual aquaintance who shall remain nameless, ( ... it was Stevie Mac), following another apprentice into the toilets, the innocent party settled down for a protracted and relaxing shite complete with scud mag. He then threw one of those demented feral cats over the top of the cubicle onto the unsuspecting party.... we peed ourselves, the screams were horrible.
The reason i remeber it so well, was because the fookin thing scratched me and I had to go to the medical centre, where they talked me into joining the blood donor session, it was like a carry on film.

What I've never been able to find out, since the old bus station was demolished, is where out-of-town buses start and finish. If you wanted to go to Durham, say, from Hartlepool, where would you catch the bus?
I see plenty of buses leaving Durham to H'pool, but none vice versa.

Because, what is this life if, full of care........

And also, because you can then gaze out of the window without taking out pedestrians.

the National Express buses stop either side of the A689 roughly at the point where the Clansman is situated. I would imagine Victoria Road is a good bet for Durham buses.

Some pedestrians NEED taking out, namely the smackheads. I saw one jump a barrier to cross the road - the daft thing is, he jumped the very end of the barrier straight onto the road causing a car to brake hard. He could have just walked across the road another 2 feet further along. Hate those c*nts. I would kill them all using state or private sponsored execution.
I'll do it, and the kind thing for them is they won't feel a thing if they're off their tits.

Well, they can't be as annoying as the people who cycle round Durham, blocking up the roads for other traffic, overtaking on the inside, ignoring red lights and that. Or as annoying as the drivers who crawl out of Durham at 24 mph and hold you up for miles and miles until you get to Silent Bank, where you could overtake if they didn't suddenly accelerate to 80.

I bet not many people on here live right next door to a smackhead and all the associated problems..............if they did they'd join me in my quest to have them all terminated

I drove to the Mail office today (roughly a 2 mile round trip) and had to do 4 emergency stops because of people walking into the road without looking to see if any traffic was coming!!!

ALL of these people were 50+ or more.

Also, getting on a bus is a complete last resort. (even after walking)

So, if you had no car and wanted to get to London, can't afford the train, you'd walk, rather than jump on the National Express coach to Victoria......?
