End of the season see how he does. From what i've heard he doesn't want it and while he'll ALWAYS give 100% while doing it, if his hearts not in it give it to someone who is.

Maybe I'm wrong but I get the impression that Turner, possibly like Cooper, can sit down and have a sensible conversation about the team with Hodcroft without automatically putting the "I'm in charge" (Newell, Wilson) barriers up. That doesn't mean he's a yes man (although he might be for all I know).

It's not abnormal for a boss to want to speak with his employee about the job the latter does.
Remember, Pools is Hodcroft's hobby. If he's excluded from the footballing side he loses half his reason for being here.

I wasn't suggesting he was a yes man but more along the lines of "I work for IOR so i'll have to take the job if offered"

If anyone outside football is told to do something by there employer they have to do it!!!!!

Is this any different?

If you honestly believe IOR will say to Turner- "you have to take the job" then I think your last comment is directed at yourself.

Hartlepool move is non-starter for Dave Penney
Posted on: Sat 20 Dec 2008

Dave Penney has dismissed any suggestion that he could be tempted to make the switch to Quakers' bitterest rivals by confirming that his loyalties are firmly with Darlington.

The managerial vacancy that followed Danny Wilson's sudden sacking has seen Penney's name put forward as a potential candidate to take over at Victoria Park.

But after being linked with a number of positions in recent weeks, including vacancies at Huddersfield and Barnsley, Penney is well aware of the difficulties involved in switching between local rivals and remains fullyfocused on bringing success to Darlington.

"It's flattering but for me that would probably be a nonstarter.

I know from playing at Swansea and then moving to Cardiff how tricky it can be to go from one local rival to another," he said while talking to the Northern Echo.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm brave enough to do it, but there could be all sorts of consequences from the fans so no, it's a non-starter. I'm concentrating on doing my best for Darlington."

From that I reckon there's little doubt that Penney would take a job like Pools if it came along! He never actually says "I'm happy at Darlington" does he? It would 'probably be a non starter' because we are local rivals but he's "brave enough to do it" it hardly sounds like he's loving life over at the Stadium of Lamp.

Not exactly an encouraging interview if you're a Loid!

And as he says he switched from Swansea to Cardiff in his playing career and that rivalry is as big if not bigger than us & the Loids.

Its far bigger if you ask me. They'd kill each other given half the chance

I'd love Penney to get the job for two reasons; he's a good manager and it'd piss the Loids off something chronic
