Oxford Road and Verrills are the best two in the town. FACT.

The one on Brenda Road is nice too.

Avoid Duke Street, Young Street, all of them at Seaton, Joanna's, Catcote Road, Shrewsbury Street and Murray Street. They're shite.

I get free food from Oxy Road chip and I can confirm it's rank, Shrewsbury Street is a bit better.

I had a cracking fish and chips from Don Bees today! Anyone know why it's called the Lightening Cod now?

Bees sold it a few months back.

To be honest I've not been since it changed hands. It used to be dogshite though!

Its been took over last year and they have just change the name i think, although i thought it was call 'the almighty cod'

The fens chips shop is good if you want fish its at least twice as big as any other in the town.

Lister Street?

Been there a few times over the last year or so. VERY hit and miss. Sometimes tremendous, other times skanky.

Being exiled means I have developed more of an appreciation of proper northern fish and chips. Every time I go north of Sheffield I do my best to indulge, and if I'm in Hartlepool and don't get any it's like I've had me nuts but not popped me cork.

Personally I think Verrills is consisently the best. Saturday dinnertimes are always quality. The problem is that they're only open about 12 hours in a week.

Failing that, Don Bee's are sometimes excellent, sometimes crap. I've only had them out of Young's once and they were good.

Before the Yeovil game I went to the one near Morrells off York Road (Britannia?) which wasn't up to much.

Even though I grew up round the corner from the Oxy Road one, I've never been enamoured with them. One of the most exciting things I ever saw as a kid was when Oxy Road chippy caught fire. There were proper firemen, flames and smoke and everything!

The best fish and chips I have ever had were from one in a small place called Huntly in Aberdeenshire. Rather than have one big bit of fish, you got three smaller pieces, all cooked to perfection. The chips were all spot on too, no black/green bits or spiky offcuts. I had a superb pie in Huntly that day as well, so I was well pleased with meself.

We used that one down the Central purely by chance and because we were famished and it was excellent, always went past it before.
Sorry, Oxy Road, NO THANKS.

The new place on Seaton front (near where the baths were) is absolutely lush like, cooked fresh to order every time. I forgot about that one earlier!

King Cods All day long. thats the new one where the baths used to be on seaton front, near warrior park entrance.

Its a little bit more expensive than the normal chippies but i am a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

I would put it on par, if not better than the magpie at whitby.

sit in with a beer or take away, but that is for fish mind. remember this kid wanted pattie and chips!

I wouldnt go anywhere else now i sampled this place. All cooked to order so you are getting fresh fish every time
