Join the crew, we got ours Monday, in credit and up by £8...I read the propaganda then checked the figures and oddly enough we've fitted energy bulbs, got rid of the second fridge freezer and tumble drier, but the figures for consumption are almost identical ...I smell a rat.

If they only owe you a small amount going into the winter months (where most people) use more power then your payment will be up to minimise you going into debt long term. If you are still in credit in April then you should get onto them to get your payment reduced - if any company is un co-operative then you have the option of changing provider...

And Snowy your consumption may be similar to last year even with your energy saving measures because you may of used your Tv more or charged your mobile more (just examples).....

I went through all of the bill and it looks we use just under 3,000 units regardless of the time of year. This year we have put energy saving bulbs throughout the house yet they estimate us to use around 4,000 units this time around sctatchinghead

If it is an estimate then it is probably wrong. Check the meter and give them accurate readings.

my service provider allows me to view, a year on year comparison of consumption....

it shows an over 10% reduction between 2007 and 2008 ........

but my capped rate ended in november...its the price increases over the last 12 months, that have come home to roost,

so f**k global warming, Im going back to using what I want when I want, and the energy companies can whislt for it, as they say you can't get blood out a stone!!!!!!

They do have accurate readings, they are estimating how much I am going to use in the future and basing my bill on that, but that happens to be 1000 units more than what I have used in the past

I'm not getting involved in this. It's bad enough having to defend the bastads ((c)adg) all day, without doing it in my own time. bbolt

There was something on the news about this a week ago.

Basically the feckers aren't content with raising the bills higher than they really should be, they're accumulating funds to balance against people who they think won't be able to pay them during the coming recession.

The water are just the same. I've paid about £15 a month to Severn Trent for my metered water supply for the last two years, but I recently got an estimated bill stating that they wanted £39 a month!

I rang them up to question the 'mistake', and the lass on the other end advised me to cancel the direct debit and pay by cheque instead for what I have used. You don't get any discount for direct debit with them so I took the advice. She more or less admitted that it was out of order.

Next time the water bill comes I'm not sending them payment until I get the one which is in really red capital letters.

Unless you've changed supplier recently you'll probably save a lot by switching supplier or tariff. They all have a habit of raising their prices to existing customers and then introducing a new tariff which is much more competitive, but they don't tell existing customers about it. You only find out about the new cheaper tariffs if you go a price comparator site. Quite often if you change suppliers, to British Gas for example, they agree a direct debit figure with you. With oil at 40$ a barrel the cost of gas and leccy should start coming down soon. Again you will have to change tariff or supplier to get the best deal. I know about these things cos I've just changed supplier twice in the last six months to stop being ripped off

They'll be increasing your payments because the new estimates will be based on the new increased prices

It'll still be a rip off though and you need to get yourself on an online deal asap.

If you're with npower just ring and threaten to cancel if they won't let you on Sign Online 14 and they'll put you on it
