They could just debate the farce that is the BBC. £6 million a year for Jonathon Ross is nothing short of a disgrace. Money presumably paid to "x" rated stars to learn to dance. And I mean "x" as in so far down the actual celebrity ladder that they can only get on strictly come dancing. Not "x" as in porn stars. Though if they were using porn stars I may be tempted to watch it.

Over a £100 a year and I think I watch BBC a few hours a week usually match of the day, possibly the news.

Might get rid of the tv watch whatever I want to on a computer, least you dont have to pay the BBC then.

I believe that the law states that anybody resident in the UK who has equipment capable of receiving a television signal is liable to pay the licence fee.

The subtlety is in the wording.

Technically you need one even if your phone can do TV. Crazy it is, a right good trap set by the mongrels at BBC.

You are right, but details are indeed details, and when it comes to down to them, computers are not capable of receiving a television signal unless they have a television tuner card fitted.
I think I'm safe in saying that the computer granny uses for e-mails and knitting patterns is not subject to the TV licence fee. And yet granny could watch Web TV any time she wanted if she decided to.

If you do decide to watch TV over the Internet, that's between you and your ISP.

Mobile phone TV on the other hand is directly relayed to your phone, or so I'm led to believe.

The TV offering that BT, for example, proposes does not travel via the Internet. It passes through the telephone lines leading to your house, it uses the same ADSL the Internet does, but it doesn't require the Internet to work.

When you use the Web to watch TV, however, you are not receiving a TV signal. You are receiving a video stream.

So when the BBC put out retro programming on the net, the assumption is that the viewer has a TV and therefore has a licence?? It would explain why a lot of the content is not available here in Asia.

Except through third parties.

Relieiving for the missus that she doesn't have to pay two months wages to watch Alan Titchmarsh like..... clappp clappp

Nope

It would, but the real reason is copyright issues.

Pooliekev do you stil have a spare room I'm fancying getting out of here!!

That's because at least according to ITV News, the Tories hate the BBC and this sort of thing is starting to piss the Tories off more.

I wish the hell Watergate had had something to do with water. It would make the use of "gate" as a suffix for any fookin' scandal under the sun just a little a bit more acceptable.

How about some retro ones.

Flintgate
Judasgate
Idesgate
Aspgate
Hardradagate
Amerigate
Fawkesgate (also called 5/11)
Thermidorgate
Sandcreekgate
Gavrilogate
Canalgate
Poundinyourpocketgate
Knollgate
Liargate ... oh wait ...
