Young Rowell the pick of the bunch for Pools, Robson and Foley were very poor.

Budtz made some good saves then cocked up big time mis-controlling a 20 yard back pass which ended up in the back of the net to make it 4-0

matty robson credited with the own goal

I thought Rowell was excellent last night but we didnt stand a chance with Anton Ferdinand on for them, he totally bossed the games while he was on.

Budtz was as terrible as usual, hes a decent shot stopper but that all he has, his kicking and handling were woeful, as for their 4th goal, it was typical of his mistakes last season.

I Also thought the No.10 for Sunderland was excellent, wouldnt be suprised to see him in the first team this season.

All in all it was a poor performance but as i say, Rowell was our only saving grace.

It just confirms what we already know; outside the first choice sixteen, we have nothing.

Fair point but other than Rowell there seems to be no one coming through from our much heralded youth setup..

If he comes into the first team and is picked up for a £1 million in two years time, at this level doesn't that make the youth setup a success?

I must admit I get a bit disappointed when I see youth/young reserve team players released. Okay our 'experts' don't think they can perform at League One level, but the vast majority never even see first team football. Michael Rae is prime example, two years of youth and reserve team football, numerous goals, not a single minute of first team action.

Some players clearly fit in, and some clearly don't.
