Foley almost got us a point.

Allegedly.

Report in the paper this morning says 'had enough chances to earn a share of the spoils, but lacked quality in front of goal'. Sounds a lot like last season.

But that was from the Mail on Sunday, what do they know.

I was there and we were shocking but so were Tranmere. We only had one good chance when Liddle was one-on-one with there keeper from 9 yards but passed it to him. Apart from that we resulted in long range shots which kepted getting blocked. Ratings-

ALB-6- average, nout really to do.
Sweeney-5- Had a awful 1st half and never got going
Collins-7-Strong as ever
Nelson-6.5 -decent performance
Humps- 6.5 - did nothing good but nothing bad
Monkhouse-5 -he was scared of Antwi and never ran at him
Liddle-5 Never in the game, missed a awesome chance soon after going one behind
Boland-6.5 -Only one in midfield who passed the ball to a Hartlepool shirt
Jones-4- Did nothing at all in his time on the pitch and pulled out of a few challenges
Porter- 5- Gave up on long balls to easy and never got going
Brown 5.5- Only received high balls which he couldnt win, had a few neat touches and had a half chance blocked in the 1st half
All subs 5 never got into it

Overall a dissapointing performance and a dissapointing result as the team never got going, never passed the ball and got beat of really poor opposition in Tranmere

A frustrating afternoon with nothing between the sides but a freak strike from nothing. Pools dominated the first 15 minutes and last 20 minutes to a large degree. Both James Brown and especially Gary Liddle missed gilt-edged chances. Liddles was amongst the easiest chances I've ever seen missed. 5 yards out, ahead of the defender, keeper only just of his line, if he could have hit six inches either side of the keeper he'd have scored. I like Liddle but it was pitiful.

ALB 7 - Did nothing wrong - a freakish miracle strike into the bottom corner was unstoppable
Sweeney 6 - Twice made serious mistakesw in first half but got it together in the second
Collins - 7.5 - Very good
Nelson - 7.5 - Likewise
Humphreys- Solid
Jones- 5 - Never got into game
Boland - 7 - Solid, hard-working
Liddle- 5 - Did most things right but he is the reason we didn't get a point. Laughable miss.
Monkhouse - 3 - Pathetic. Had potentially the easiest days work in professional football up against ANTWI. Did nothing constructive. Appeared frightened and lazy. I'd have subbed him after the first half.
Brown - 6.5 - Moderate. Waited much to long to pull the trigger on an outstanding chance.
Porter - 6.5 - Not my favourite player but at the heart of everything good in the first half. Dissappeared in the second

The only one of the subs to make any impact was Foley who was lively.

A frustrating day.

I agree with the above two posts, although I thought a 3 for Monkhouse was generous.
If Antwi is as bad as everyone says he is ( and I am not criticising anyone for having that opinion) then what about Monkhouse? Antwi completely dominated him both in the air and on the ground. Every ball kicked out by ALB was aimed at Monky..........Antwi won every one of them.........and yet we persisted in doing it. It was so obvious and yet we persisted with it.
Tactics? Too many balls played into Porter and Brown in the air. Tactics? I sometimes wonder if me and Danny are watching the same game. Why did we abandon the high speed tempo and quick passing game we saw against Colchester? Although I do understand why Danny gets frustrated with Monkey........yesterday he was as good as a man missing.
Liddle guilty of a glaring miss, Brownie delayed pulling the trigger and the chance disappeared and Foley missed the target with a one on one.
To be honest it was a boring 0-0 draw for me, except that a speculative shot crept in. Neither side deserved to win, but Tranmere did defend frantically at times so I suppose you can say they wanted it more.
Our fans were providing non stop support and deserved better. Tranmere fans......what Tranmere fans?
