So far he has managed Pools' in 106 games. won 47 lost 36 drew 23. A win ratio of 44.3%. Which is not a bad strike rate, if doubters are to be honest.

Turner's strike rate 42.5%

Newell's strike rate 44.8%

Cooper's strike rate 43.6%

Knowles strike rate 45.6%

Clough's strike rate 41.6%

I can go further back and find manager's with slightly better win ratio's but will stick to the current crop of manager's who people can remember. So on current manager's Wilson stands 3rd only behind Knowles and Newell.

In 1988, many Man U fans were calling for Ferguson's head and 20 years on he is still there manager and no one on here needs me to list the trophies Man u have won since then. Now Im not daft enough to suggest that Wilson will ever achieve that kind of success here at Pools'. It does though show that with a little patience ,and more importantly, support then manager's who fans' want rid of can in fact bring a team some sort of success.

Between 1971 and 1989 Pools had 8 manager's with the best win ratio being John Bird (34.3%). Then knowles took over. After Knowles came Murray for a couple of seasons who did ok. We then appointed 7 managers (Honour included) in the next 6 years (1993-99) with no manager reaching a 30% Win rate. To many manager's in a short period of time in my opinion.

Tomorrow see's the start of a new season, a season that is important to Pools' and every supporter of Pools. Our centenary season, hopefully one that may bring us all enjoyment and maybe even a small success (Johnstone paint trophy, a decent run in a cup competition, maybe even a giant killing)

Now in previous posts I have said I love Danny Wilson, that more tongue in cheek than true, but he is the incumbent and therefore will get my support from 3 pm tomorrow along with every player who represents us in the forthcoming season. That includes player's who i believe should have been released at the end of last season.

So all I ask is that each and every Pools' fan gets behind Wilson and the boys and give both some time.

I am not saying that if we're bottom in December I wont be calling for his head but at the moment he has won us promotion, and even though at times we struggled last season he did all most of us wanted and that was to stay in League 1 this season. I do want an improvement on last season and I think we can achieve that.

So come on Poolies' lets rally behind the team and enjoy the new season, even if it a rollercoaster of one.

You would be pretty pathetic not to.

Anyone can make obvious comments like that.

Its almost like saying its a game of two halves.

The post is not just about getting behind 11 players in Pools' colours tomorrow, its about getting behind everyone including Wilson.

Who stats prove is our 3rd successful win ratio manager of modern times. And giving a manager more than 2 seasons before bringing in a new face. But as usually ADG you can ignore any actual facts as long as it doesnt get in your way of constantly having a moan about Wilson.

What are Wilson's stats for this Division to enable a fair comparison with, for example, Cooper?

What has happened in the past is, to a certain extent, irrelevant. Mistakes have been made. If all parties have learned from those mistakes then we should move forward. Splitting hairs and arguing as to which manager has the best record doesn't have any bearing whatsoever on this new season. We have what we have and, as Bob says, we have to back that.
We are all in this together. The operative word here is TOGETHER.
Come on you Whites.....err....with a bit of blue.

All people want is for Wilson to pick the best team available and not make daft subs....

He made my piss boil at times last season but lets hope he has learned from his mistakes and we can havea successful season. Hopefully we can now sign a decent goalkeeper and take the JP trophy seriously.....

I have to take issue with the Murray comment also!!!
Murray presided over the most successful Hartlepool United team in history, prior to Neale Cooper coming along!!!
He achieved promotion, which I believe he was never given enough credit for as we were mid table when he took over (granted they were Cyril's players, but he still had to do the near impossible - get Pools promoted). He went for the win in every away game whereas Cyril went for the win at home and the dour draw away.
11th in the following season, and the first time in the club's history of surviving in the higher division.
Then ridiculously sacked two thirds through the one after, following the very first sticky spell of his time here, not surprisingly coming after all the shit hit the fan with the Gibson carry on and the goalless streak (although we didn't actually lose the majority of games in the streak, there were plenty goalless draws). All this after he had taken us joint top of the division, still the club's highest ever league placing. In fact we were still not far from the play off areas when he was dismissed. The hopeless Viv Busby followed, oh dear!!!!

He must still be highly thought of as a coach, as he's been at a few prem clubs in a coaching capacity

Murray made some excellent signings.

Andy Saville, Dean Emerson, Phil Gilchrist, Martin Hodge, Ryan and Paul Cross to name a few. That was a good Pools side until all the financial problems came to light.

We may have even pushed on further if we didn't have some bloke called Gibson as our chairman.

I can accept that the use of "OK" to describe Murray's tenure was probably not the best use of words. I can also accept what everyone has said with regards to his reign in players bought, results gained and if memory serves me right in that we went the last 14 games unbeaten in 90/91 to make 3rd place and win promotion.

Hold on a minute was it not Mr Wilson last season who was talking about play offs when we were in a relegation dog fight ? Was it not the same manager who would of had us finish one place above relegation had it not have been for deducted points from other teams ? Is it not the same manager who has once again spoke of the playoffs again this season when all of us are geared for a relegation scrap ???? PLEASE PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG MR WILSON YOU STUPID FUCKWIT.
