Durham don't seem to be missing him either. Latest from Chester-le-Street: Kent 72 for 9!

Kent all out 78

Durham all out 108

Kent need 177 (I think) to win and are currently 1 for 2

Andrew Strauss is utter utter crap. I'm half blind and my average would be higher than his. He destroys every good bowling performance England do.

Why do they keep picking him?? One good innings in every fifteen or so?? He gets out to balls that bowlers would defend better.

Strauss is thinking about his game too much. He hardly plays any shots at the moment and is more concerned about where his off stump is, when he first got into the England team he'd have twatted a ball of the length he got out to today through cover point for four If they got straighter he'd pull it. He is trying to bat like a proper opener and not playing his own game. In his peak he was quick scoring he regularly used to out score Trescothick in opening partnerships that used to rattle along at five an over. Yes he used to get caught at gulley and point sometimes but it's better than knicking a nothing ball to the keeper or slip.

Stop scratching around and play some fooking shots lad or you won't be going to India! How did Collingwood get out of a hole? He stopped thinking about were his head and feet where going and just hit the ball.

i have a horrible feeling durham will be in bother over their pitch.

38 wickets down in 2 days play. and when i say 2 days, thats including nearly 3 hours lost to rain and bad light.

would be a shame cos a win would take them top of the table. sadx

I think they'll be ok, the weather up in that neck of the woods will get them off. Some massive thunderstorms have emptied themselves on the Riverside over the last week and that will have seriously affected the preparation. Nobody has got hurt it's only seaming around.

Mind you, crickets southern biased top brass probably don't want the new boys from the North East to win the Championship banghead

I think the ECB pitch inspectors (imagine that was your job!) automatically will have a look a pitch when that many wickets go down in two days but they have to take everything into consideration and surely the weather has been the biggest factor in the pitch being sub standard. Maybe the batting has just been shite!?

An annoying footnote to this ropey wicket is that we (Hartlepool) have a crucial in football terms '6 pointer' against Normanby Hall on Saturday, sadly at the wrong end of the NYSD Premier League. Mark Davies has been turning out as the English pro for them and we were quite pleased when he was selected in Durham's eleven for a four day game starting on Wednesday....... It's alright it's not as if he's taken any wickets or anything

Bloody Panesar. Denying Harmy his first ever half century.

on a brighter note no action is being taken against durham over the pitch so 2 quick wickets tomoro and they go top of the league.

Robert Key the Kent captain wasn't very pleased with the lack of action

Quote:
He labelled an ECB pitch panel "a bit of a muppet show" and said it was "an absolute disgrace" that Durham did not have any points deducted.

Kent were out for 133 in the first session on Friday as Durham triumphed.

Key added: "The integrity of the rest of the championship is at stake.

"I'm not saying Durham deliberately prepared a bad pitch, but if there's no penalty they and other teams with strong seam attacks will always want these sort of pitches.

"The game is going to be a shambles and we won't produce Test cricketers.

"The pitch panel asked all the usual questions but apparently they think there was nothing wrong with the pitch. It's not sour grapes because I would have said the same if we'd won.

"It's ridiculous and I can't say how bad we feel about it. Even Shivnarine Chanderpaul couldn't score runs on that pitch. If the ECB are not going to do anything about pitches like that why waste money sending inspectors round the country?"
