What do you reckon ?

I think there should have been one already - we're only having one in London cos we qualify automatically as hosts.

the only problem with this it gives ammunition to those who would like to see one team representing us all, think i remember a few years ago it was bandied about and was rejected,it also gives that cock blatter some more crap to come out with,so i say no even though lately i am not a big england fan

Has to be no, how would it be picked? You can guarantee that there will be those who are not happy from all four nations. Plus it will give those prima doners another stage to swan around with their 'Look at me, aren't I great' attitude

I'd rather us have England/Scotland/NI/Wales as seperate entities in the Olympics completely.

I would have voted for "Don't give a flying fk".

Thanks for that option.

But that can't happen though, the team compete in the Olympics as Great Britain and not as separate countries, don't know why though sctatchinghead

I agree with Mr Mandrake as well if countries like Timor Leste, Kiribati (3 athletes due to financial difficulties) then why cant England Scotland Wales and NI compete in their own capacity. And just out of interest would that not mean that actually more athletes would compete , for example if the 4th placed runner in the 100m sprint was say, Scottish would that not make him Scotlands best 100m runner so if Scotland held their own trials he would be there but under Team GB rules he cant go as we only sending 3.

It's all political though innit?
England and Scotland are countries, NI and Wales are principalities (although try telling their residents that they're not countries).
Britain is a political state similar to what Yugoslavia and Soviet Union were. Although admittedly ours is a union generally by choice, and from a long way back historically.
The question is, with the inevitable European Union superstate looming, individual nationalities such as Dutch, French, Scottish etc will become less and less of an issue. Scotland would not have been able to develop as a modern country without the union with the English, they know that, but for ceremonial and flag waving purposes they would be able to finally end the historical union as part of a European super state without any financial implications. Not that it would matter anyway, as like I said individual nationalities would only matter so far as sport and flag waving were concerned.
Full circle then - in that scenario the four home nations could indeed in future participate as four separate entities, as Britain might not have a mandate from the people to exist in its current state.
I have to say I don't think it will happen any time soon, but there's no reason for doubting it eventually will.

Apparantly according to Wikipedia we've been Great Britain and not United Kingdom, like dare I mention that singing competition I like to watch once a year, because its the name we've used ever since London 1908 and we've never changed it.

Athletes in NI can apparantly like that particular singing competition choose to represent Ireland or Great Britain.
