the game at top flight level had already lost 90% of its soul by then. The other 10% went the journey before the millenium turned.

The passion in football went when the premiershite started. overpriced tickets, over paid players and all seater stadiums took the atmosphere away.

if anyone comes to watch a game of football further down the league (NEwcastle fans coming to watch Pools) always say that the atmosphere and crack on the terraces is miles better.

FA money grabbing bar stewards ruined the english game!!!!

Surely the premierchip IS the best standard of football?

So by our reasoning then
If it was a better standard, more honest grass roots etc etc. the lower you got, why are Blyth Spartans or Goatsheed only attracting crowds of hundreds instead of 40000s? Or if the best standard of footy to watch is our dear own standard, why do we insist on pulling our dear team apart for being in this league and not being over optimistic about moving down a league, which would actually being an upward step and are hoping to move up which is surely a move down?

Maybe THATS why Darlington have a 25000 seater? because they know the further down they go, the better the standard of footy therefore the crowds will increase.

The advert bangs on about 'we all need someone or something that makes us feel like we belong'. In fact that sense of belonging, especially in the top flight, has drastically diminished over the years. How can the average fan going to see a premiership side identify with the players anymore? Very few of those players are now born in the local neighbourhood, they are on salaries one hundred times the average wage, and they never see them except on the pitch, in the tabloids or driving off at speed in their baby Bentley's.

I think if any fan of one of the big clubs were to answer honestly then they would find it hard to say that they felt they really belonged and felt part of their club. When they kiss their club badges in celebration they are really kissing the pound note. Premiership football is a reflection of everything that is wrong with British society today.

Very well put,
But this need to 'belong' attracts a lot more with certain teams than others
the there are the 'local' supporters...

TOP TIP
when a swaggering arrogant manc fan from Rift House is singing at the telly in the local, snarling and whinging at him for not being a real supporter, glory hunter, not supporting home town club etc etcwill merely make us look like a supporter of a footy team with 'little mans disease' or in the is case 'little' Artlepool disease'

Much better to punch the tw@t just for being a punter in front of the telly, but only if you are that way inclined of course.

I personally shun and abhor all forms of violence

I just happened to be in the pub on Sunday while the highlights of Arsenal v Real Madrid were on. Adebayor scored a penalty (which was never a penner but that's beside the point) and immediately went into an OTT badge kissing orgy. It was totally nauseating. sadx

Hamburg whupping Juventus on the other hand was a cracker of a game, with players showing real but well-dosed delight when their plays came off.

Obviously the technicaly best players are in the premier league. No question, no argument its a no brainer.

However, that league is a sanitised version of what football in this country used to be. Over a hundred quid for a bloke to take his two lads to the match is obscene, especially when the 'heroes' on the pitch are picking up £150'000 a week.

I have sky. I have sky sports but I hardly ever watch a game in that league, I really detest them all and the fear is that their ethos is trickling down the divisions.

When New Labour, great standard bearers of socialism that they are, gained power in 1997 their sports minister Tony Banks said that they would look into giving football back to the working man.

Over a decade of inaction later we witness that the premiership, like Britain in general, has become even greedier and yet more cash oriented. Rip off Britain indeed.

Some Premiershit games are good, others are cack.

Ditto in all the leagues.

Except Chillyjockoland where all the games are cack.
