Is there any teacher type people on here who can explain this, my little boy is 7 and done his first sats this year (unknown to the kids when tested). He came out with a 2A Maths and 2 2Bs in English and Science. Now personally im not bothered what the marks mean as i will be more interested in his development when the real exams etc come in the future. BUT my brother in law reckons the the top mark should be a 2C and the lowest a 2A sctatchinghead it doesnt make sense to me but can anyone else enlighten me. Reading his report it sounded like the A he got for maths was the top mark as he was praised to high heaven. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this debate.

Subject levels can have such a large spread that they are divided into 3 sub levels so you know whether kids are almost at the next level or have just crept into one. A is higher than a C.
Levels progress as: 1C 1B 1A 2C 2B 2A 3C 3B 3A 4C 4B 4A etc.
At the end of each Key Stage (end of year6 and end of year 9) the levels will be reported to parents as Level 1 2 3 4 5 6 etc but you can find out the sub level by asking.

Well i just bit my tongue when he said a C is higher than an A, FFS i hated school and learnt more in the 1st 3-4 yrs of leaving but even i thought an A would be the highest.
