Completely idiotic.

They also couldn't spell Ikea. Must have missed the 50 foot letters every time they drive past it.

A lot of people think ironic means something completely different from its real meaning - Alannis Morissette for example - but that's the first time I've heard it used to mean "totally pathetic".
I agree mind, Katcha: it is totally pathetic.

Its a Daily Mail stereotype.
Most assylum seekers are put in the places normal "English" people wont live in and many of them do jobs normal "English" people refuse to do.
Personally I think we should have stricter controls over immigration and I think the country is very small and very full
But that video is bollocks...

The song's funny enough as satire and I think it's very tongue in cheek, I just think flashing up pictures of anyone with dark skin (including a GP, I noticed) is pretty poor.

And Jish also picked up on the fact they can't spell, which makes them illiterate as well as stupid

I live with two Polish guys and they work fucking hard. Opens your eyes a bit when you hear how they're treated by their bosses too, compared to colleagues doing the same job as them. It wouldn't surprise me if the person who made the video was from somewhere similar to Hartlepool - somewhere like Leeds it's hard to be racist.

I say that like - a guy openly said to me on the back of the bus that it was taking ages because of the "lazy niggers" getting on. Funny, considering the bus driver was white. Pretty funny to see him hide behind his shopping when a few people turned round with a look at decking him.

strange 2.8 million for amuslim killed in his own country during awar......stranger is NOTHING paid to english people killed in the 7/7 attacks in london by murdering muslim....look after our own 1st we have no obligation to pay our taxes to people who see us as targets for suicide bombers.and yes i know we invaded there country to rid them of adictator who was murdering thousands of his own countrymen and women....but then so was hitler and not many complained when we wiped out the facsist face of europe, sick to death of people coming to the uk and taking the piss out of us and our spineless goverment bending over backwards to keep them happy while they go on and on about cival liberties...the answer is simple while they live here they should obey our laws and customs the same as we have to if we go to there country.

I love being an immigrant in this country. Even though I was born here I don't really regard myself as English, and detest the idea of "Britishness" even more so.

Technically, being a Celt - my bloodline was here long before the Anglo-Saxons(Danish-Germans) and the Normans(French).

So bugger off back home...

Mr Staircase; you have hit the nail on the head.
When you look beyond the tiny moment we are on this earth and this country (compared to the life of the human species and of the earth itself); when you look at the broader picture....there really isnt such a thing as Englishness at all
We're a mixed bag and there's been a few more ingredients added lately

But I bet at the same time you condemn any Muslim who says something similar (or supports Pakistan at cricket) and shout about how we should "send the buggers back". stpid

Actually, good sir, quite the opposite.

I believe that roots and blood are far more important in the soul of a man than the geographical location of his birth.

I believe the Muslim religion to be incredibly beautiful and horrendously misunderstood.

I despise the likes of BNP and the idiotic neanderthals who cry "send 'em home" when they have no idea that THEY would have to go home also...

I love this melting pot - and I mean that with terrific sincerity.

If anything, I'm a man more concerned with the impending class-war in this country rather than anything as stupid and accidental as race.

class war?
Please do elaborate....
I was reckoning a race war would come first - or at least proper riots, unfortunately giving the daily mail and bnp, and lots of other people, what they want - so they can say I told you so

One of my favourite ever books - "The Road to Wigan Pier" by George Orwell - outlines what I mean in much more eloquence and cohesion.

In a nutshell, the sinking middle-classes, made poorer by the actions of the upper-classes will be unwilling to take the mantle of the working-classes and will instead turn against the people they could and should relate to with much greater ease.
Even though we will all be in the same boat, the middle-classes would rather maintain their graces and tag on to the upper-classes who are actually exploiting them. The working-classes will be unwilling to accept anyone with a white collar as "one of their own" and will also distance themselves.

Thus whilst we should all be blaming the upper-classes for our current situation, we'll instead only bicker amongst ourselves while it gets increasingly worse and the people we should be blaming will get off scott-free, and undoubtedly make more money too.

Orwell foresaw this in 1937, and made the distinction upon the background of the impending war between socialism and fascism.

It can be just as easily applied to the situation today in this "credit crunch".

The likes of the BNP can easily exploit a situation like this, saying that they will defend the "pillars of society" and "look after the man on the street".

It's too black and white these days - you're either a bleeding heart liberal, or a right-wing nut, there is no grey are. And that is a very dangerous precedent to set in such volatile times because people will inexorably choose a side...

Just out of interest Mr Raicase, are you SURE you are Celtic?
It's just that the Vikings came along after the Celts and didn't exactly overlook their parental duties, and they were by no means the only two peoples involved in history.
I have been told, from what I consider sound sources, that the Celt is typically dark haired while the Viking is red haired.

As for me, logically, being from a region where the Danes ruled for 500 years (and being a big, fairish-haired bugger to boot), I ought to stake some claim to being Nordic.
But I've never traced my Genealogy so I might have my roots in Tristan de Cunha for all I know.
But there's no denying my Englishness (not Britishness - the country is far too diverse in its customs for there to be single "British" trait) - in fact "Englishness" might be a bit vague too - "Northernness" might be better still. It certainly outweighs any ethnic baggage I'm carrying.

I seem to recall a documentary where a random selection of white Southern and Northern English people gave samples of DNA. The northeners had three times as much Nordic/Viking style characteristics than the Southerners, who were found to have three times more Saxon charateristics than the Northerners. Don't ask me what the characteristics are, although I suspect it may have been DNA comparisons with "known" corpses of both peoples which may have been dug up.
I think the gist of it was, the majority of people tend to stay where they are over the generations.

I'm a bit confused too. I've got a scottish sounding name with a French spelling. My Mam was from Lisburn but grew up in Hartlepool. I had two Irish grandparents. Other than that, I have an Indian t'other half who was preceded by a Spaniard, a Frog and a Portuguese previous t'other halves.

As for the Irish, despite my Irish Catholic antecedence, it didn't stop the 'boys' shooting at me. , I detest the IRA (not the Irish people) but had I been in Dublin at the same time as the Black and Tans I would have joined Mr Collins and likewise had I been in Derry the day of Bloody Sunday I would probably had trotted along to see Martin, the local commander of the 'provos'.

Your frankness is refreshing, if I may be so bold to say so. I would submit though that the reason the 'boys' shot at you was of what you represented. In their eyes you were somebody to be shot at and had no connection whatsoever to your antecedence. I suppose we would all be different, given different sets of circumstances.
You are to be admired as one who made a target of yourself whereas your enemy didn't seem as keen to wear identity. Although I am sure you would have willingly 'gone in' once or twice without the fanfare of a uniform.
I'm really glad that I was never faced with any sort of conflict situation.

On my mam's side:
her dads grandfather (or his family or summat) came over from Germany, used to import pianos and were called Weber. When the first world war started they had to change their name to Webster to avoid a damn good kicking (or shooting).
Her mam's family came over from Southern Ireland at the turn of the twentieth century and the whole family lived in one room above Newcastle Quayside. The street is still there but all the houses were knocked down ages ago.

On mydad's side - he never knew his own dad and never really spoke to his mam - who was from Matlock in Derbyshire. So err...thats about as far back as that goes.

On 3 sides I can trace my heritage back to Hartlepool for at least 150 years. The other side came over at the end of the 19th century from Ireland.

her dads grandfather (or his family or summat) came over from Germany, used to import pornos and were called Weber.

:-o

My dad's family name (hence mine) is very hard to trace back to its roots. Despite many attempts by various people over the years, I'm none the wiser!!! All I know is that both my dad's parents, and in turn their parents and grandparents came from old Hartlepool. How far back after that I'm not sure.
My mother's side is more far-flung - West Hartlepool  and Wales. She and her brother were born in Carmarthen in South Wales, as her dad was from there. Her mam was from West Hartlepool, and they all moved to West in the early 50's. Then my other uncle and aunty were born in the town, but only my oldest uncle has any recollection of his early life in SW Wales.

I'd guess you are very much in a minority in not caring, Gloves. Most people feel the need to have roots.
Put me down as half caring.
