It also depends on the size of the Tv.

I think usually if your going for a 42" or higher then Plasma are better.

but i wouldn't take my advice.

They're both produce excellent pictures. The thing to look for is not the LCD v Plasma thing its the contrast ration usually expressed as 10000:1 20000:1 etc.

Buy the highest ration in your price bracket irrespective of LCD/Plasma, If buying 37'' or better don't look at anything less than 30000:1

Get a samsung one and also make sure its 1080p and not 1080i (they get falsely advertised as 1080p sometimes) If you get anything less than 1080p you will regret it in years to come.

I got this one about 6 months ago from currys online for under a grand and it is fantastic.

Aswell as it being 1080p, the picture quality is stunning (apart from the fact that dark shadows etc sometimes appear 'blocky'). Oh and its great for connecting a pc or xbox.

LCD tv's can get much smaller, like 15, 19, 20, 23, 26, 27, 32, 37, etc.. Whereas plasmas generally are 42in up to i've seen 65in. The biggest LCD i've seen is 52in.

LCD uses different technology than plasma. LCD uses liquid crystals, like a laptop screen, and plasma uses pockets of gas.

Plasma runs hotter and uses more electricity. There is also the chance of getting burned-in images on a plasma tv. This is becoming less of an issue, but it can still happen if you leave the same image on the screen for long, especially if it is flashing, such as in a video game.

Plasma also has a glass front on it, which can be very reflective. This is extremely annoying when there is light in your room, espeically in dark scenes of TV or fillums. LCD tv's have a non-relfective screen, like that on most laptop screens.

Plasma generally has a higher contrast ratio, so blacker niggers and whiter whites.

Plasma has a better time with fast moving images, though LCD has come a long way to close the gap in this category.

Overall, LCD is a better technology, and you can see it reflected in the price. For the same sized television, LCD will cost more. It will also last longer and have less problems though. I recomend LCD to anyone who wants a flat panel tv.

And stick with the name brands. If you go for something cheap, just know that the manufacturer did the same thing when choosing the components to use, so they are going to be more likely to have something go wrong. The big brands usually stand behind their products better too. Samsung would be your best bet.

i can't understand people who buy a tv lcd or plasma that all the bloody street can watch at the same time, and pay through the nose for it as well as make their carbon footprint triple in size. ok if you have living the size of the borough hall
i find when looking at these big screens you have to be so far back or you can't take in all the screen you tend to look at parts rather than the whole just an opinion
but there seems to be so many that it never gets dark anymore :coool:
