... and erections abound in certain quarters, in some peoples minds we are going for the top. Now for the reality check that is neither negative nor positive, just a awfully inconvenient little fact, the two signings have yet to prove themselves, pedigree counts for nothing, how many so called 'quality' players have we brought in over the past couple of seasons, players with reputations who were praised on arrival and fooked up completely...? We just have to see how they adapt and till they do that we watch and wait..
It also applies both ways, how many new players are tortured because a section of the crowd feel the need to capitalise on one poor performance and carry out illogical vendettas against individuals, then complain they lack confidence, step forward the twat on the terrace...no player ever performed better by having themselves insulted on a weekly basis by some twat with a personality disorder.

I'm not doing somersaults but I much prefer to see the likes of these lads arrive than the Robbie Elliott's of this world.

It's clear that Wilson has not been given a bunch of dosh for transfers so we are looking at free transfers. The fact that we've got this lad Jones rather than other clubs who were after him is clearly good. A number of managers wanted him so he must have something.

That said, I'm still more concerned about the full back and goalkeeper positions to shore up our pathetic defence.

one thing IOR may be thinking is related to a point what Mr I touched on there - i.e. Wilson was given money to improve the squad last season by signing some players with these "reputations," i.e. Budtz, Moore (who to be fair was half decent),Elliott, Antwi and a shed load of loan signings who all proved duffers (except for Collins who seems injury prone instead).
I'm not happy with his track record last season and neither must Pools be.
I think the attitude they've got is, "prove what you can do in the up-and-coming player market, and we'll take it from there if you improve somewhat. Oh, and by the way, pick your BEST players regardless of whether YOU get on with them or not."
He's almost certainly into a probation period as manager.

I know for a fact that Europe's most successful team of the 70's/80's (i.e. Liverpool) didn't get on as people off the pitch - far from it. Emlyn Hughes was despised by most Liverpool players.

We have signed two kids.
One who couldn't get into the Forest squad
and one who couldn't get into the Yeovil squad.
I don't think either is guaranteed a starting place, and like others I think he's doing a Scottie,
strenghtening areas where we are well covered. Despite his quote of only bringing in players
who are better than what we have.
I hope they both shove this back down my throat, time will tell.

If we don't bring in a keeper and two full backs, we will not improve on last season

rant over sadx

Neither are kids, they are I suppose in terms of experience but both are over 20.

Surely we are in agreement that we'd rather sign young hungry lads with everything to prove than the Robbie Elliott's of this world?

Absolutely, but we need to recruit in the right positions.
Hopefully we will

Yes, but.....we shouldn't start assuming all older players are looking for a last pay day....let's just look for attitude, that's what counts.

Surely signing any player at our level is a gamble. We're only ever going to sign good potential, players on the way down or lower league journeymen. There's no guarentee that any of them are going to fit in.

Yes, all three of them fit into the latter category at varying skill levels. Barker is the essense of a lower league journeyman, Monkhouse is too but bordering on real potential and likewise Collins. Any of them could make the sporadic sourjourn into the Championship but they're not in league 1 by accident.

Come on Snowy man; even you must admit "erections abounding" is a bit OTT!
