I'm shortly going to renew the two Monkey Business season tickets which we use for the Mail competition.

If anyone wants to go halfies with the deal the club are offering, send me a PM or email monkeybusinessfanzine@hotmail.co.uk

The competition tickets we are renewing are for the Cyril, so going halfs will cost you £249.50.

It's publicity for the mag.

When I took over as editor of the Bizz I was surprised by the amount of people who:

a) didn't know what the Bizz was
b) were reluctant to buy it in case it wasn't their cup of tea and it was a waste of a pound
c) were reluctant to buy it because they are afraid that reading something might make them seem puffy in front of their mates

There's not a lot we can do about the c's, but as most people in the town read the Mail, having the competition in there raises the profile of the mag which goes some way to getting the a's and b's buying it.

It's a damn site cheaper than advertising, plus it shows a bit of goodwill to the club and the Mail.

I would say so - I noticed a lot of people who had previously been a 'no thanks' taking a chance on it. Hopefully with us winning the award people might be more willing to risk their quid.

Both myself and the missus won tickets last season but I'd have still been there if I hadn't won. It just saved me 18 quid....a few times!

Maybe we (sorry that's the royal we, although I have assisted at times with selling MB) should give away 249 and a half copies to people who have said no when asked if they'd like to buy one. But I agree with Salty, £1 to read about the team you support without having the official slant - it's cheap.

wouldnt the bizz get as much publicity and the club more money if it sponsored a youth team player or gave the money to youth development as they did previously ?

Fraid not. Since IOR took over the club has not exactly been strapped for cash as it used to be, and the youth team has come on leaps and bounds.

We did pay for advert boards, but I don't think they gave anything like the return on investment the Mail competition does.

I have thought about that, but it would be a bit of a pisser to the people who had spent their quid on it.

I'm interested to see what effect the 'credit crunch' has on fanzine purchases this season.

so what you are saying is that you would have paid if you hadnt won the tickets. which means the club lost out on 18 bar ?

which kind of defeats the object of giving the club the money via buying season tickets.

To be honest that's not really my problem. It's something for the club and MB to work out. I've been made to feel guilty about the freebies before but it doesn't wash with me, I probably spend 10-15% of my annual income watching Pools so I'm more than happy to save a few quid if the opportunity arrises.

We've got no control over who wins the tickets - it could be a regular, or someone who's never been in their life before.

As long as whoever wins the tickets gets behind the team when they watch the game I'm not bothered. If only one person went to watch their first Pools game as a result of winning the tickets and decided to become a regular, that is a complete success in my eyes.

The club were given several hundred quid for two season tickets, so they aren't really missing out.
