What year is it?

You should be picking a 8-10 year old one up for about £3k.

its a 97 but honestly, the year is irrelevant. This car has been rebuilt from the ground up.

£5k tops if it has had a lot of work done to it then I reckon, but probably shouldn't go over 4.

I've been thinking of getting myself one for playing about in summer too, although I've not convinced Mrs R of the necessity as yet!

How much then>?

Those floor mats look a bit hacky.
And they've put the wheel badge on upside down.

Nice example..............but it'll still need the cylinder head gasket replacing as often as it needs a service!

MX5s are cool too.

Although I'd prefer a Z3 or Z4.

The biggest problem is the wife, she doesn't see why we need three cars between two of us.

Tis a shame to have to mess about putting the cat back on for its next MOT.

I've decatted, but only because I've got a diesel and I can get away with out having one and still pass the MOT test.

I'd imagine the brakes would have been a fair wedge.

However because of it's age I bet it was still reasonably cheap. So I'll got for 2.5k

Looks good. Why has it had all the coolent system changed but not the head? As said earlier they are renowned for blowing their heads (through overheating not overeating) although as again said before, the Land Rover head gasket should help. I always preferred the handling of the MX-5 although they seem to be pricey / hold their price well.
Anyway Mr. I, hope that you enjoy it and get lots of opportunities to go topless. :uhoh:

Doesn't necessarily NEED to be fitted with a catalyst to pass it's MOT test though Mr ptbap, so long as it meets the emissions criteria

What with the bike a few weeks back and now this sporty number are you trying to regain your younger years?

Whats next a quad bike, jet ski or the whole hog and get a power boat?.

Nice motor and my guess is around the 3.5k mark.

£1650.

Quite pleased with that and it drives lovely.

Mr Bandage; what does removing the cat do to fuel consumption?

nothing at all, its all just a myth that it decreases fuel consumption, only thing it will do is make the car louder, possibly a bit faster (on a fast car) and nothing else :P

not bad for £1650 but as someone else said why did he have to sell it all of a sudden when he got that work done to it? sctatchinghead nice buy tho thrilled

Hairdresser's car.

Then again I like the MX5 which is similar, although I like the first generation Eunos Roadster which existed before hairdressers did.

EDIT: still a bargain though

Simple: he had an urgent need for dosh and I was in the right place at the right time. He wanted two grand for it but it needs a set of tyres shortly and a few niggly bits doing to it. The money he spent was just daft, spending that kind of money on an old car is as good as throwing it away.

I've given it a good thrash round the back lanes this afternoon and it drives lovely. It's not a missile but its got that little sports car feel in the bendy bits. A bit like a go cart with number plates.

Maybe theres a bit of that in there, I was happy with just the bike but this came up and I really fancied it. Boats? Naw, had enough of them to last a lifetime and I was always better on land.

Had her just under a year now, fantastic fun, cheap and a bit of an eye-catcher. I have gotten used to the hairdresser comments and feel sorry for those that make them. Yes its a mid-life crisis, but by god its a fun one !!!!!

As I say Bresslaw, it's by far the most classic roadster on the market!

I'll admit I'm surprised. I imagined it to be worth a lot more. It makes me wonder whether the 4.5 grand I paid for my car was a rip off. Not that it would make any difference like.

A three way Catalytic Converter (called such because it 'treats' three gases, namely nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons) has no real bearing on the performance of an engine, other than the internal workings are made up of a honeycomb like constuction, and can slow down the flow of burnt exhaust gases. Removing the cat means the exhaust (gas flow) is less restricted, and therefore you'll gain a little extra power.

The problem however lies with the oxygen sensors, or Lambda Probes as they are more commonly known.
An oxygen sensor does exactly what it says on the tin, it senses the amount of oxygen in the burnt exhaust gases and sends a signal to the cars ECU to either richen or weaken the fuel / air mixture. Vehicles which are OBD2 (year 2000 on) compliant are fitted with a second probe, after the catalyst which monitors the performance of the cat, and informs the ECU as to whether or not the cat is operating within its set parameters.

In the absence of a catalyst, the ECU will receive conflicting reports from the probes, get a bit emotional, and put one of these fellas on your dash display Image

Still with me?...........Good!!

I know you said your car was a 97, and should therefore only be OBD and not OBD2, but with all those conversions has it a newer engine? If its still running on the original lump you shouldnt have a problem.

ANYWAY, to answer your original question, fuel consumption will increase, cos you can go faster with no cat...easy!!
