If you can't get the [youtube] tags to work, the reason could well be that YT is now blocking embedding of certain videos for copyright reasons.
You can still link to the video but you be won't able to incorporate it into the message.

Example:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=HLkC8l3nJro

If you follow the link and look on the right, in the box containing the "subscribe" button, you'll see "Embedding disabled by request".

So if you try to embed the video all you get is this: [youtube]http://youtube.com/watch?v=HLkC8l3nJro[/youtube]
