As Chip says, the train is best. If you see a bus for Hartlepool with the letter 'X' in front of the number, don't be fooled into thinking it means as it once did ...'express'. It means 'Extra long journey' ....visiting every pit village in between and standing in a lay-by outside some kebab or tanning shop in a place where the average age is 78.....or walk even.

230 is the quickest bus route, usually about an hour and 10 minutes. Get the train if you can, will have you there in around half an hour.
