i have to say, Phil Collins is of course a master drummer, some of his genesis stuff and in particular Brand X is nothing short of amazing, However ive just got and played his farewell tour DVD and it is the most boring (besides anything done by Dire Straights) DVD and Concert ive ever watched yawn2

I don't know why I never got on with anything that Genesis did. It should've been what I like listening to but somehow it never connected. Something to do with lack of personality and feeling as though they were a manufactured band.

Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is still one of my most played, despite being a double cd, it's so enjoyable to listen to - it's an hour and a half later before I know it. Gabriel at his best, and most obscure at the same time. Then he left shortly afterwards.
The musical arrangements by Tony Banks and Steve Hackett were always stunning as a backdrop to the lyrics, and don't forget Coillins was the least influential band member at this time, and was - like Elvis said - a technically brilliant handler of a drum kit. Whatever dross the band name Genesis conjured up after that (inspired by Collins), what nobody can take away from him is the fact that he is/was a superb drummer. Trespass,Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, Lamb Lies Down are all essential listening if anybody wants to get a flavour of what the band was originally all about.
I think the good music actually extended to Duke (the second album as a trio) but after that................. taz sadx refred refred

It's 'Call Me Al ' off Graceland covered recently by Hot Club De Paris which gives me the opportunity to plug their new single "May Hey! Housebrick" out 16th May on 7" and download.

"Three Sides Live" (1982) was the last good Genesis album, and the three live sides really were very good (the recorded side less so). They should have wrapped in after that one.
