Anyone know of a great holiday place to go in England where we can take 2 kids and the dog.
Been looking at cottages in the lakes, and the cotswolds but all fully booked for the summer by this time, We both knackered and need a couple of days away, but don't want to leave the country due to the fact that the pub is up for sale. Already done Torquay, Newquay way and now I;m running out of ideas.

If you don't fancy Devon or Cornwall then the New Forest is nice as is the Peak District if you want to be a bit closer to home.

Or get a barge on the Norfolk Broads?

Chillyjockoland has some really nice spots too.

Depends on what you want to do really, Blackpool is always good for entertaining kids and for a pissup.

Avoid Wales though, there's Welsh people there.

They have a nice prince mind.
And they make a lovely noise when they sing in the sea.

All joking aside like, if you just want to do nowt, relax and get it all on a plate and amuse the kids, go to Butlizt in Skeggy I had the job of organising a staggy 'cos I was best man and it was a bugger of a job to get in but once we were there it was bloody marvellous and cheap as you like. TONS for the kids to do and as much cheap grub and booze as you can 'andle, chor.

Consider hiring a motorhome, it'll be roughly the same cost and you can tour where you like. They're perfect for kids as they can watch TV on the move or play games, even read a book lying on the bed.

This country is full of top quality campsites, have a look on the Caravan Club's website.

Pembrokeshire, If peace and quiet is what you want this is the place, Tenby or Fishguard as a base.

Pembrokeshire is lovely, especially the bits outside towns. But somehow, wherever you start off from, you're always only half way to Pembroke by the time you reach the Welsh border, and those windy country roads go on forever. Exhausting, I call it, if you're driving.

I recommend Edinburgh

Torquay? Newquay?
Why go that far?
I holiday in England every year with kids and I wont drive more than three hours.
The Peak District is beautiful but is full to bust during holiday time. Its surrounded by cities and towns.
I'd go for a cottage. Welcome are fine, as are Dales. Get online and find them out. Your own privacy, a nice open fire, a nice pub nearby. You can do Northumberland, Durham, the Borders, North Yorkshire. Chill out without a massive drive
Mates of ours have just come back from Butlins in Skeggy and they said it was terrible, full of loud charvers. And they arent snobs in the slightest.

Over the last few years me and our lass would try and combine Pools away games with a weekend away - Torquay = weekend in Cornwall, Wrexham = weekend in North Wales etc. Now and then we would go away even when there wasn't a match on! We've had some good weekends and some shite ones, but here are my favourite places in the UK:

Tenby - takes ages to get to but superb coastline and loads of castles and stuff to see.

Cornwall - ditto, but it doesn't feel like you're in the UK. Best place for me is Mousehole near Penzance.

Whitby - loads of pubs, lots to see and do, like Seaton only a million better.

Edinburgh - loads of pubs, loads to see and do. The best touristy thing is Mary King's close, the streets under the streets. Weird.

Lindisfarne - had our honeymoon here, perfect if you want to properly chill but probably boring for kids.

Berwick - smart little place with plenty of historical stuff.

Lakes - Keswick is my favourite place to stop, but all of it is ace. Windermere is canny too.

Peak District - I live a short drive away but I only ever seem to go when on my way to Manchester. Loads of smart places - Matlock, Buxton, Bakewell etc. If you like walking and pubs this is the place to go.

Llandudno - of all the resorts on the North Wales coast this is the smartest in my opinion. Rhyl and Prestatyn are holes in comparison. Loads of castles within a short drive.

Aberdeen - swine to get to, but is a cracking city which feels more Scandanavian to me. Ace countryside, loads of castles, stone circles, and distilleries very close by.

Glasgow - smart big city but still friendly, good for shopping if you're in to that.

York - loads of historical stuff, loads of smart pubs, and not far to get to.

Bristol - only stopped here briefly but would like to see more of it.

Places I want to go to:

Isle of Man
Orkney
Shetland
Lewes
Inverness

Right that's enough of all this shite. None of you knows what you're talking about.

The best TOWN in England (ths question was about England, right?) is York.

If you don't like towns (i.e., if you prefer the countryside), the best place is Horton oin Ribblesdale.

Thread closed. (MUST be, no?)
