Anyone know where I could get myself a working Sky+ box. The recording facility on the one we've got is knackered, and I'm not prepared to pay the cost of their call out to come and look at it. Apparently if it isn't working I'm responsible for the cost of the repair, because it belongs to me! What the f*ck am I paying all this money for each month to them?

Threaten to cancel your subscription.

That usually works

It does work. Me and me da both rang up to complain our respective Sky boxes weren't working and they rambled on and eventually said it would cost so much to fix so we said forget it it, we'll cancel our subscriptions. Cue pause and another man on the end of the line: "If we replace the equipment with a brand new box free of charge will you stay with us?" Well aye came the reply. It will work, believe me.

As these 2 have said, just ring them up,tell em to cancel your subscription as the equipments not working & youre not prepared to pay for replacements or repairs. You must stick to your guns about cancelling as theyll try to sweet talk you & probably offer a half price call out,I had to go as far as actually agreeing the cancellation date, but if you insist you wont pay for repairs & youre not subscribing to a service youre not getting they will do it for nowt.

I will never use Sky for any service ever again. I've got Virgin Media at the moment, which I will discontinue once the contract period is up and I will get one of those illegal cable boxes and get loads of telly for fu-c-k all, without any pangs of conscience whatsoever. Fuc-k the lot of them.

them cable boxes are the way to go
BUT you need some sort of feed to your cable so keep either your cable phone or broadband and then you get the signal through to "borrow" for the box.
at the moment they are trying to change codes so often people get sick but they are normally available pretty quick.
mind the latest generation of boxes are supposed to be auto upgrading 150 for a box or 45 a month for sky its not rocket science

I love the name 'dodgy box'.

People come up with these humerous names for all sorts of things. Remember 'Employment Training' in the 80's and 90's? You went on a employment training course, know as ET and to incentivise people their benefits were supplimented by £10. So the 'ET scheme became known as the extra tenner.

Aye I went on a 'SMC' course once but it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, 'cos most of them were 'UFC's'

£150 is expensive i can get them for £130 as for the codes changing problem, there will be a fix in the next few days :) and they dont work if u only have a phone line unless your lucky enough to be plugged in at the green box in your street, but virgin media engineers have disconnected all the lines which dont have accounts with them as of last week, well 90% of them anyway, rest will follow sometime soon, u need either broadband or a minimal tv package for it to work, they arent exactly legal tho
