The one who has an old fuel tanker next to the road painted with 'Tractors! Slow Down!' on it. It used to be painted with 'No more pylons!', and I think there was another one with 'Pylons kill!' on it.

Does anyone know anything about who owns the farm or painted the fuel tankers?

I reckon he/she must be a proper eccentric, and worthy of a docusoap series.

I've always wondered that. I've also always wondered who painted the big smiley face on the gas tank on the other side of the road a bit further down, where there's an old (abandoned?) motel and space for loads of lorries to park.

Yep - upstairs in the Tontine is the most surreal place I've ever been to in my life.

I want to see the P-I-N fly-on-the-wall docu-series with the in-laws. I'd never miss an episode.

I'd pay good money to watch that.

And speaking of motorway-based anomalies, has anyone ever been to the Akhbar Dynasty Indian restaurant on the road to Darlo?

Simple, the power companies wanted to erct a new line of pylons all the way down to York and the locals wanted them buried instead as they thought they were an eyesore, there was a public enquiry over it. The signs painted on the fuel tankers were done by the campaign group and just happened to be in that location because they were most easily viewed from there .... and just left.

Is that the old Kirklevington Country Club where Gino Washington and the Ram Jam Band used to play.

Aye, went for a feed and piss up there with work a year or two back when we were working on the A66.

Strange night, not doing a pub crawl before and after a curry. Food was ok though.

oddly enough there was a band that used to gig at the redcar jazz club in my youth three of them brothers.
geno and jimmy james etc were regular visitors but the local band who i can't remember the name of now actually bought the tontine and made it in to a top class restaurant
just remembered " THE McCOYS" and i think they named the pub the same

the downstairs restaurant (decor-wise) is what you might expect of a high class eaterie.
Me and the missus arrived early for lunch en route to York one day, so they said we could go upstairs to the bar/function room area. There's a huge collection of all kinds of old and bizarre furniture, pictures and general bric-a-brac strewn everywhere. Stuff I'd never imagined that anyone would ever make in any period of time - but it is there. Really really weird room.

TGP, I think it's the one at the Knayton/Borrowby turnoff that you mean. Can't remember what it's called though. Sorry!

John McCoy (The Teesside one!) played Bass Guitar for Ian Gillan, and was in The Drovers in the 60's.

McCoys restaurant at the Tontine regularly got a high placing in the Egon Ronay guide.

Why, what did these harmless mutants ever do to the McCoys?? I note there is no McCoys Ass flavour, so maybe they secreted them away to a sanctuary somewhere.

I don't think so, the Kirklevington was on the old A19 towards Yarm, well away from the presentA19.

Jesus you move away and they move the A19.

Is nothing sacred.

Where've they moved it to, it can't be too far away.

Must say we had a trip over to the NE recently and the road network is totally unrecognisable.
