We were discussing Pools record over the past 10 years and saying how this season would be the first to die quietly in its sleep... so so to speak. THEN WOMENS LOGIC INTERVENED  ...but got me thinking    ... I quote...roughly... " They may have had a good 10 years... but they always came away from the playoffs in tears and even when they got promoted you lot came in looking as though they'd just been relegated, only Pools could do that ....disappointing even in the good times....Pools never really change do they?"
For once ...... I was lost for words, IT WAS TRUE ! banghead

It's true innit. Last season was the only season we actually won a game (Wycombe) that identifiably gained us something. But we still managed to let a higher and quite achievable target escape us.

But as you say, we may have mostly failed at the last hurdle (failed to stay up in one case), but seasons dying in their sleep has become a bit of a novelty.
If it's any consolation, take a look at how many promotion winning teams had achieve-nothing seasons prior to romping away with the league. Neither Swansea nor Carlisle nor Donny were in last season's play-offs (nor ever in danger at the other end of the table for that matter). The season before last, Scunny, Brizzle and Blackpool all excelled by coming nowhere near the play-offs, Blackpool even being theoretically overtakeable by Pools on the last day of the season! The season before that Colchester and Barnsley provide further examples. Neither of them were in the reckoning while we were on our long trip to Cardiff.

This is not to suggest a mediocre season is a prerequisite for future success, but it certainly proves that mediocrity does not necessarily follow mediocrity.

Even a manager cocking a complete season up is no real guide to how he'll do the next season. Before joining Carlisle, Paul Simpson tried his best to get Rochdale relegated, and just watch how Phil Brown is flying at the moment after being a disaster at Derby and finishing one place ahead of relegation in his first season at Hull.
And dare I mention a certain manager of MkDonkeys who after two lousy seasons switched clubs and romped to promotion?

I guess all this goes to say that even if we do have the dubious fortune of retaining Mr W's services, we shouldn't be too disconsolate and assume doom is at hand; after all we did rather enjoy having him at the helm until quite recently, right?

BTW this is not supposed to be a Wilson advocacy thread! More of a "don't assume the worst" thread, or at least that's what it turned into after starting out as an "agree with Snowy" thread (a rarity in itself ).

So you don't just bore us into suicidal tendencies, your missus has to cope as well?? confised confised

Poor lass..... sadx

I'm not going to launch into another but I really really really really do not understand the vitriol that has been going on, and no, try as you might, the 'but you don't see it Kev' bollocks is even more frustrating because in my absence I grab any crumb of information I can get. The only thing I don't get is approximately 78 minutes visual of any game we play.

We're top of the bottom half, nothing Wilson could have done would have altered that greatly. Anyone who says it would is merely guessing.

i have never been a fan and i am in the record some where over the two seasons saying so
as i said he changed my mind last season

but as managers go there is no sparkle that i can see
my early season prediction if i can remember rightly was 16 th so he has achieved it or near to it
but it has been so dull to watch for most of the season
