Anyone see him just send off Maschareno? Very good decision in my eyes. He was already on a booking, and ran 30 yards up to the referee to protest something that had nothing to do with him. The referee was spot on. Hopefully more referees will follow suit and stop the petulence from these "stars".

the way i seen it he was asking a question (well within his rights), if he had been going on like an idiot then he would have deserved it!!!

steve bennett is just another over-reacting self rightous ignorant twat of a ref!!!

spoiled the game in my opinion.

It seems like Fergusons rant at the refs and refs boss Keith Hackett has paid off for him and Man Utd - yet another Liverpool player has just been booked.

Why don't the Premiership just admit it - Fergie has them in his pocket banghead Scottish c~@t

Or would he have done the same if the game was at Anfield and not Old Trafford

What a load of shite.

It was a woeful refereeing performance unbelievable inconsistence.

Maschareno was quite reasoned with the ref he was simply questioning the ridiculous booking of Torres in a quite calm manner he only lost the plot after Bennett spoiled the game.

On the other hand he earlier ignored the same player repeatedly tell him him to "fuck off". He later failed book Gerrard when he ran up to him to tell him "he was taking the fucking piss" far worse than the second booking of the Argie. The first booking was awful refereeing, it was the type of challenge you have to let go early in a derby game, common sense says it's an intense fixture and early on the tackles will be flying in.

Bennett ruined the game and had no control over it.

He looks like a total egotistical wanker as well.

Surely clamping down on 'tackles flying in' early in the game is a good thing to keep the game from getting totally out of control. A foul is a foul, it doesn't matter which teams are involved.

Or you could just speak to the player and tell him any more challenges like that and he'll book booked instead of flashing cards like confetti after seven minutes.... ultimately it spoils the game for the playing public. If you speak to players like that they might even treat you with a bit of respect.

Football used to be a mans game.

I don't care about either side, it's a wider issue.

Some of these refs strut about with bigger ego's than the players and Bennett is certainly one of them.

They just spoil the game week after week.

The ref's decision has just undermined everything that has been talked about in the last couple of days regarding Ashley Cole's behaviour before. Let the FA decide what's happening before taking the argument into your own hands.

The whole thing is ridiculous. If the refs stick to the letter of the law, then Mascherano was sent off justifiably for swearing. (this was Bennetts explanation of the second yellow card. Dissent)

Wayne Rooney constantly swears at officials and nothing happens. There is video evidence in every game of this.

There's no consistency whatsoever in the game with refereeing.

9.9 times out of 10, the refs use no common sense whatsoever.

That game was all over when he was sent off and Bennett can be proud of the fact that he has more or less handed them the title.

Ferguson has the most influence of referees than anyone else (including the ridiculous Sepp Blatter)

I hate Man Utd if you hadn't figured that out already.

I don't think the Argie did swear at the ref, he was fairly calm. However he did earlier repeatedly tell him to "fuck off" earlier and wasn't booked then after the red card Gerrard clearly swore at him and again wasn't booked.

I love the way Man Utd players and management have got all high and mighty after the event when if referee's were consistent as Mr Townsend has pointed out the likes of Rooney would be off every single week.

Exactly. You can hate every player on the pitch, and they may be overpaid, overrated etc but no-one can ever tell me that players don't swear at the officials at every game.

To me, it looked like Bennett was trying to get in Fergusons good books. He's good at mind games with the FA is Ferguson. Very clever indeed.

It would be interesting to see how things would turn out if the refs were consistent. I certainly think there would be more than the handful of penalties given at old trafford in the last 20 years. It would also be interesting to see how it filtered down the leagues.
