From international cricket. Shame - he was superb to watch and will be a real miss to the side - especially when you watch Strauss. banghead

Indeed. Tres was a good player and a great bloke. Its a shame he can't overcome his problems but good luck to the lad.

What actually are his problems? I've read numerous articles but I still don't really know what the problem is. stpid

A real shame that- a quality player who we've missed terribly. I'd love him to be opening for England at the moment given the way the top six have performed in the last year.

It seems to be some sort of depression but no one seems to be able to pinpoint the exact problem.

He scores loads of runs for Somerset but can't seem to handle pulling on an England shirt.

I thought it was stress/anxiety related?

He was meant to be going to Dubai last week with Somerset for a two week pre season tour. He got to the airport then went straight back home to "spend time with his family" it's certainly a strange one. I suppose stress related illnesses are difficult to understand.

It appears he can't be away from home.

How did he do it for all those years before though sctatchinghead

Probably have to wait till his autobiography eventually comes out.

top top bloke and archetypal aggressive opening bat. the way he bats you honestly wouldn't think he had anxiety related problems. would have loved to see him bat more for england. wish him nothing but good luck clappp

His nerves were completely shot. He had to come back home before flying out on holiday because he couldn't even face the plane journey.

Great bloke, shame he had to retire - but it was a long time coming.

I said on a cricket message board before last night's play that he would need 200 to keep his place in the summer.

Watch Vaughan declare overnight.
