...I just hate how it's been hijacked and used to refer to any group... the nursing community, the gay community, the deaf community, etc, etc... but I read an article in a magazine today, that referred to the F16 community.... is it a village inhabited by American jet fighters...? It's just getting silly.
...any other irritating terms come to mind?

People who talk in acronyms....Real converstaion....." are you conversant with D.E.M.S".... the big man asked.... sctatchinghead ..."what?" I said ...."D.E.M.S.?" he asked...." I know what it means, but what does a defensively equipped merchant ship have to do with working here?" I asked.
"Absolutely nothing...shall we try something else ?" he sighed.

I concur.

People who overindulge in Acronyms should be sent to JAIL (Jaguar and Alligator Infested Locations).

Is it reasonable to talk about the PoolieBunker community?

The word 'leverage'. I can barely bring meself to type it.

When I worked for an American company the swines across the sea it seems HAD to use it in EVERY email. Then the arse-licking UK managers all started using it.

It just doesn't seem like a proper word to me, like a noun bastardised into a verb or something. Roughly translated it's another way of saying 'use'. Used in a context like:

'We need to leverage our group purchasing power to facilitate bulk discounts.'

Bastads. I hope they all choke on their doughnuts (or should that be donuts?)

What everyone else has said plus 'Blue Sky Thinking' and 'Project Management'. Not used that much now but I used to hate 'Quality Circles'.

WTF is blue sky thinking?? confised confised sctatchinghead

Aren't 'Quality Circles' a kind of quality troubleshooting and problem prevention meeting with a tightly documented procedure? Mind, I suppose the phrase didn't take long to get hijacked to refer to any old kind of quality discussion.

My fave was when I got told brainstorming wasn't pc and was told to use the phrase "thought shower" instead. Apparently brainstorming could offend epileptics. stpid

Haha - we call them golden shower meetings at work now!

I hate any kind of b0ll0cks like these phrases, they are used by people who are not intelligent but think these phrases will make others think they are... in the end though people just think they are c**ts!

As hinted above, Blue Sky Thinking was introduced instead of Brainstorming which was indeed considered non PC to people suffering from epilepsy.

And now for something completely different,

anyone who uses that should be banned from life in general.

When I worked in industry we used an acronym: SWAG = "scientific wild-arsed guess"

Now that's the kind of acronym I don't mind!
