I've got the odd Fall track here and there on compilations and whatnot, but I wouldn't mind listening to a couple of their albums in full. Any recommendations for a starting point?

Over the last twenty years Mark E. Smith has given me more pleasure than any other person (other than my wife - and that's close).

My recommendations would be :

Recent: Country on the Click or The Unutterable

Ancient: Grotesque(After the Gramme) or Bend Sinister

Don't neglect the other 24 albums though (apart from 'Are You Are Missing Winner')

Mad John and I will be in attendance at Newcastle Uni on Wednesday to here the magic words 'Good Evening, we are the Fall'. Can't wait.
The dear departed ECG is also a fan.

The Rough Trade singles box wouldn't be a bad starting point.

Doesn't he think that he's a complete t*sser! Or is that someone else I'm thinking of?

I think that's Kev who doesn't rate Mark E. Smith.

Start with 'This Nations Saving Grace'. It's easy, tuneful and a right little belter. Then move on to the more demanding stuff. If you have few bob to spare you can do no better than the 'Complete BBC Sessions 78 - 2004". There are many fine compilations as well.

Or you could put needles in your eyes.............

Generally talentless shite, tuneless shite, but not 'popular' so ergo worshiped

BTW, Mr J Cash Esq couldn't lace Roy Orbison's boots, but Roy wasn't a washed up wife beating tuneless silly boy, was he?

I'd agree with WhiteLight and start with This Nations Saving Grace. Top that up with a compilation called 50,000 Fall Fans Cant be Wrong.
If you go with those two you wont go wrong, believe me.
I asked a mate the same question, got this answer and it was the right one
To sum up:
This Nations Saving Grace
50'000 Fall Fans Cant Be Wrong

Two tremendous albums and a great intro!!
