Does she really expect me to believe that she was going to come back out and move her car?!

I support the clamping of illegally parked cars.

I couldn't give a toss how much the fine is.

So you support private wheel clamping firms making huge sums of money..........do you?

Yes, why not, free enterprise and all that.....

Only the blind could fail to see the notices posted about 'illegal parking'

Only the stupid could fail to see the weekly reports in the Bartlepool Snail about the complete and utter gords who get clmaped because of their own stupid feckless stupidity

So you don't see it as yet another tax on the motorist, hived out to private enterprise in order to get a lump sum per annum into the local authority that will then piss it away in Councillors expenses?? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Thought not.....

No I don't, I don't pay this tax you are talking about, because I don't park illegally.

Can you give me an insight into the paranoia about parking in the wrong place at the wrong time that is currently prevalent in the town/UK?? Or the industry that has sprung up around it??

To be honest Kev, I couldn't give a fook, it may be yet another indirect tax, but in this particular case, it's a tax on the dumb and pig ignorant, it's clearly signed and it's a private car park, so whats the problem? sctatchinghead violin

I doubt they would park on a double yellow in York Road, or forget to get a £1.20 ticket for two hours in Middleton Grange, so why do they think, given the barrage of reports in the mail over the past two months, it won't happen to them?

Well you could say the lottery is a tax on the stupid, 'cos it is.

Doesn't address my question as to why the UK has a paranoia about parking, or is it just another easy way to get in your pocket??

I think so.

I don't have all the answers Kev, only most of them

I too don't understand the paronia regarding where you can and can't park.... maybe it's a ploy by the presbetryn Brown and greens to get us nasty car drivers of the road.

Bus /Train from Knaresborough to Skipton, place of work = 2.5 Hrs, Cost £15
Car to work, 50 mins, cost c£5.5

That's the beauty of having a house in the town centre, I don't have to worry about paying for parking or getting wheel clamped. It's wrong I have to pay for a parking permit, though, even if it is only £1.

No, mate, they want you all on the road and more of you.

That way they can burgle your wallet in more and more inventive ways every day.

1. Get up and frost on the windscreen. Start the car, go indoors and have another coffee. Fine for leaving a running car at the kerb. 50 snodgers ((c)Mutley).

2. Short of fuel, go to garage. 5 quid a gallon, 87.5p VAT, 3.30 duty. 50 litre tank, you do the maths.

3. Bit late, had to put the foot down, speed camera, 60 quid and 3 points.

4. Same bit late, park in NCP, 1.20 to get in, 1 quid an hour, four hours, 4.20, 17.5% tax.

5. Pop into Asda with the kids, takes more than three hours, parking charge.

6. Go and see grandma in hospital. parking charge 1.20 an hour.

etc etc etc.

And never, ever, ever, answer your phone. Which admittedly is a tax on women. Cos they CANNOT fookin resist.

No I can't, I'm just pig sick of people appearing in the mail claiming they've been hard done by. If it's not clamping it's idiots who break the law and get caught speeding.

People get fined for not have car insurance, do you disagree with that as well?

And pay for that service??

Ok, I'll have a go, the basics are as follows.

Car park is built.

To assist disabled people access to the building, spaces are nominated as 'disabled only', you need a badge to display in your car to park in one of these bays.

None disabled people start parking in the bays, so the owners of the building put signs up.

None disabled people continue parking in the bays so owners of the building bring in external company to assist in keep the space available for disabled people.

Despite warnings none disabled people continue to park in the disabled spaces, they get clamped

None disabled people who have been clamped complain that it's not fair, completely missing the irony that taking a disabled bay when your are not disabled is also 'not fair'

Wikipedia's definition of Paranoia....

Paranoia is a disturbed thought process characterized by excessive anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a perceived threat. In the original Greek, παράνοια (paranoia) simply means madness (para = outside; nous = mind) and, historically, this characterization was used to describe any delusional state.

I've got me little degree, but I'm far from considering myself a well educated person, I get by. Are you suggesting I am the bold bit? I understand the need for clamping and I understand the reason for it, what I don't understand is why there are a long line of people who play the 'victim' card when they have been stupid.

The lady in question here is I would imagine better qualified and wiser than me, so why is she a victim? All I can see is gross stupidity on her behalf.

On only my second day back in the UK I copped a 30 quidder. And I'll tell you what I won't ever be paying a second one.

Yeah, sure I overran the time by five minutes but what damage did it cause? How many people lost their lives through not being able to park in that exact spot rather than any of the hundred or so empty ones around it?
The 2 hour (in this case) limit is purely arbitrary. No one's going to tell me they did a study and the ensuing calculations came up with exactly 2 hours as the optimum limit rather than 1h50 or 2h10?

But it's a case of once bitten twice shy. We won't get fooled again!

P.S. Much as I agree it's nearly always the clampee's own fault, I'd nevertheless love to carry an oxy-propane set around with me and spend a day burning clamps off just for the craic.

So we say people can park were they like without and fine or clamping.
You park up legally and nip in for a paper on returning to your car some numpty has blocked you in parking illegally and HAS gone to work for the day what do you do say thats life not likely you would go off it and that is what would happen choas.

Turning this argument around a little. Why can normal motorists not park on a double yellow line, which has been put there presumably because it is considered that it would restrict access on the particular road, but any one who has a disabled badge can park with complete impunity? Will their car not cause an accident because there isn't enough room for two cars to pass without colliding?
