Anyone think he is good enough to be given an offer like this? sctatchinghead

Newcastle are believed to have offered striker Obafemi Martins a bumper £26million deal to stay at St James' Park until 2013.

The Nigerian international, who is currently away on African Nations Cup duty in Ghana, has been repeatedly linked with an exit since his £10million arrival from Inter Milan in August 2006.

Martins still has three-and-a-half years left on his existing Toon deal, which contains a £13million release clause.

But The Sun reports that Magpies owner Mike Ashley has approved a lucrative a two-year contract extension that will see the 23-year-old hitman pocket £90,000-a-week.

The new deal is also said to contain no release clause as Martins has agreed to forfeit it as part of the terms.

The powerful young forward has once again reiterated his desire to remain at the Premier League club and is eager to be a part of the new Kevin Keegan era on Tyneside.

Martins, who has scored six goals in 15 league starts this season, said: "These are exciting times and I want to stay."
