I am sick to death of people going on about house prices..... now they're complaining because younger first time buyers have virtually dried up...well of course they have, because the ridiculous price hikes over the past few years fuelled by greedy sellers have finally come home to roost, any fool could see this coming and prices are gonna have to fall as houses are grossly over priced.
What baffles me is, you can only profit if you don't buy another house or go for a smaller one or DIE! ...until that time, the value of your house is just a theoretical figure because you have to live somewhere and if you do, you have to pay an inflated price to buy another house. CRAZY SYSTEM.

Almost right Snowy except that I know a few people who have sold their milllion pound property in the Sarf to buy a similar one at a quarter of that price elsewhere and are now retired at 45!
Now it's clear that money doesn't appear from nowhere, so for that to work someone has obviously got to lose out big time.
In many parts of Dordogne the locals can't afford houses any more because the influx of British Yuppies has driven those prices up. It's like a chain letter/pyramid selling scheme - if you're in at the beginning you can make money but all those who follow are the suckers.

There is an arguement that ownership is not a great option. If you were to invest say £800 a month for 25 years the chances are that you would do much better in the end, thats taking into account the rent paid over the years.

Certainly in Nottingham you can rent a £150'000 place for £500 a month. Try that on a mortgage and you'd be looking at about a grand a month. Therefore you can then save £500 a month or £7000 a year x 25 = £175'000. I've ignored the interest on the basis that house value would rise at roughly the same level. The big difference is that the investments would pay dividents which would add to the capital figure.

Fair do's, but they are the minority... the problem is that the first time buyers, for the first time ever, are being squeezed out of the market. The present boom was only going to last a couple of years, but once the home owners have finished playing musical chairs and pocketing their wedge, the market stagnates because the first time buyers are excluded ...

I didn't realise they were to blame for the house prices, still you learn something new each day!

And as for the three we welcomed back, what exactly are they guilty of, being brown skinned?

Only the 3 in question and other's that are back in this country know what they are innocent or guilty of but i hope and pray that we dont find out what they were arrested for at the cost of hundred's of dead people in a crowded town centre one day.
We will never see eye to eye on this topic but i enjoy the open debate.

I suspect they were guilty of being rounded up with hundreds of others, via duff information from those nice chaps in the Northern Alliance, AKA the New improved Taliban
