Not sure if this has been mentioned this week, but Watford player Al Bangura is to be deported back to Sierra Leone.

I know immigration is a political 'hot potatoe', but if ever there is a case for someone being allowed to stay in the country, surely it is when he/she adds to our society?

Not sure how kicking a ball about adds to society but I bet if he was a Man United player he wouldn't be going.

Whats the basis for his deportation?

disgraceful. how on earth can a lad who has a british fiancee and a child be deported to face genuine danger when the home office can't tell us how many illegal immigrants are in the country ? we should lead the way in this sort of thing instead of looking like ham-fisted clueless twats. rage

not too sure of the full details but his case hasn't been helped cos the panel decided he over exagerated how his life would be in danger if he were to return.

My main point is that we allow convicted criminals to stay in the country, so how can they stay and be allowed to sponge off the state and yet he gets sent back. No consistency IMO.

Two wrongs don't make a right. That said, Sierra Leone is a toilet, the worst kind. I was there in 84 and its undoubtedly the most deprived and generally dangerous place I've ever set foot in. Freetown is the sort of place that you see in old African war fillums; awash with AK's. Nowadays I was under the impression that it had been sorted out somewhat particularly after Operation Barras which saw British forces end the activities of the West Side Boys.

DO you guys think you could spare 2 minutes to put some weight behind this petition, I've signed and so have many others
there aiming for 7,500 signatures, over 5,000 at last count.

The guy s trying to avoid deportation to sierra leone, he has a british fiancee, a child who is born in england and is contributing both through taxes paid from his earning and through being involved with many football in the community schemes, he seriously does contribute to the local community and the government coffers

he's being f**ked over at the end of every month like the rest of us and now being asked to leave for his troubles!!!

click the link and sign?

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/save-al-bangura

Do you think we can unite as football fans behind this?

Has your community service been rained off?

No mate, I play a lot of football and have had two operations in the last 3 weeks to sort out injuries,
3 weeks ago - arthroscopy of the left knee (follow up to my anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction last november)
and last wednesday - emergency surgery on a strangulated hernia

I'll be good to play again by march!!

I suppose the upside is I'm off on full pay untill january!

just checked on the link I sent, not been on for a few days, I see there now nearly at 10,000 signatures, I believe there initial aim was 7,500.

I think it would be nice to see at least one signature from every team in the land and some more.
a brief description of Al's story is on this page aswell

Yeah its pretty good actually, northern ireland became very much a nearly club this qualifying campaign,
beat spain home lost away
beat denmark at home drew away
beat sweden at home drew away

we buggered it up with a couple of defeats to the sh)t teams

of and Healy picked up the record of most goals in a european qualifiacation ground, 3 against spain
14 in all from 12 games

Davor sukar was the previous holder of the record!

and do you remember the last time england played Northern Ireland

NI 1 -0 Ingerlund (Healy!)

NI, currenty holders of the British Trophy.

I'd piss my self if the Spanish turned on the "ex-pats" pushing there house prices through the roof!!)
You think the spanish should send the half million "ex-pats" back home "send the buggers back?"

and on that subject, brits abroad are ex-pats and any one coming to england is an immigrant?
how the hell does that work?

I think the point is that on the costa's alone there is half a million british immigrants

So you're English but small minded enough to think it's cool to support a foreign country over and above the country of your birth.

Congratulations.

If you're that pro-Irish and anti-English then why not go and live over there.

I won't be signing anything as I don't give a flying bollock whether the blokes deported or not. In fact I'm not that fussed whether they hack him to death on arrival or not.

As for you my pretend bog trotting friend, why not emigrate to Sierra Leone to keep him company?

Incidentally, the reason why Brits in Spain is different to Africans in the UK is the freedom of movement in the EC.

If he'd been Al Bangura, toilet cleaner who had paid his taxes, got a British fiancee and a new baby who was being deported, would anyone have given a toss...?
Just a thought.
