Who used to stand in the Rink End in the olden days?

Mr I, I can definitely remember chanting 'You'll never take the Rink End'. I am also sure I wasn't the only one, but it still possible that other people were laughing at me.

I used to stand in the rink end when i 1st started going to pools it was an excellent atmosphere and being able to walk from one side of the ground to the other was great. Now im in the townend with the twins, jools and waynejulian, im getting a bit worried of late like because this little rotund chap keeps stalking us  .

Me too when I started going, aged about 8. You could tell it was me because I was being chased by a copper after out running him after I jumped down off the wall - much cheaper than turnstiles. In those days the crowd was in the Rink End was the same crowd that was in the Town End - just a different half of the game. One end was always empty.

Apparently there were numerous sub-40 year old heads being scratched at that one.

It is of course the curse of old age to believe that things aren't what they used to be. But my impression is still that the atmosphere of the Rink End on a good day (ie when the crowd exceeded 2000, which was by no means certain) would beat anything achieved by the Town End since the Rink End was allocated to away fans. I guess it's because a smaller number of fans were involved (a bit like some of the away match atmospheres) and also because the bobbies tolerated more nonsense in those days.

I infer that means you were too young to enjoy the Rink End experience. Mr I?

No, no. I was there but only as a young kid. I remember being in there by myself about 8 or 9 years old (couldn't happen today) being quite overawed by these big blokes shouting and screaming obsecenties - they were probably about 18!

The Rink End atmosphere before Thieving Gibson put the seats in was second to none.

It had improved when the new roof went on and when there was a few in it was mental.
