How was the gig?

Have found that most Durham clubs ask for ID so she wouldn't have been allowed in, probably. Even if you just want to listen to music and not drink. Ah well, only 11 months to go....

Nah, it's a puny little hill by Durham standards. You should see the one I live on....you practically need an oxygen mask when you reach the top

must say on the morning I didn't see why we'd made so much fuss the night before!
maybe it was the copiuos amounts of beer and this rather tasty whisky and lemonade drink we drank a lot of...or the 3am gin n tonics.... :uhoh:

its a folk band comprising the families Waterson and Cathy...and Saul Rose ,I think.

Martin Carthy [total f ucking hero of mine, superb guitarist]
Norma Waterson [wife of the above, voice of a Northern Angel]
Eliza Carthy [daughter of both the above, superb violinist , voice of a Northern anget x2]
and like I say I think Saul Rose is the band again, a brilliant accordian player and singer and I think one time husband of Eliza, might still be

well worth going to see/buy an album of
and in a venue like the studio!! bonus for me :sweeeet:

So what type of music do they do?

Heavy rock?

Punk?

I saw Waterson Carthy at the Brindley in Runcorn last year. The line-up is a bit of a movable feast and I'd guess whoever from the family is free will turn up. When I saw them it was Martin C, Norma W and Mike Waterson and they brought Nancy Seeger wife of Ewan McColl with them. They did a couple of sets where they sang song for song with Martin C doing the accompaniament on guitar. I doubt Liza C will be in the line up but you never know.

They're very traditional and a class turn, they're still researching/collecting and do some unusual arrangements of previously familiar songs. Paul Simon pinched Scarbro' Fair off Martin Carthy.

I've only seen the web site but The Studio seem to be getting some really good turns on. It's a bargain at £15 so I hope there's a good turnout for this gig.

Saw them at Saltburn folk club when it was run by our very own Monsieur Salty. It was just Martin and Norma. They came on the bus. They were fantastic.I like short sentences.

You can pay on the door as long as 180 people haven't got there before you.
The place rarely sells out but if youre paying on the door I suggest arriving dead on 8 o clock.

ah, what a night that was!!

It;s a pretty small room and the fire capacity was 65.
We carted all the seats and stools up from downstairs and had about 80 sitting with a further 45 standing!! totally crammed in! :uhoh:  :sweeeet: I ran the folk club with a DIY/Punk attitude!

Martin + Norma sang without a PA and it was magic!!
