The website!

Tried to order a load of gear yesterday from amazon.co.uk to deliver to my brother in Yankeeland and it all got refused?

So I logged onto amazon.com and ordered it all through there with no apparent problems.

BUT, when they realised that I've ordered from England and not Yankeeland will they still process the order properly?

Or will I get an email telling me to sling my hook?

Well, they shouldn't let you do it really....otherwise it would open things up for someone to nick your credit card and use it to have goods sent to them?

I hate credit cards.

I think that they should be banned.

But cos I was ordering from abroad I had to use mine cos they wouldn't take switch, but the bastad will be getting paid off before the bill even lands.

Seriously Ripper, never ever order anything on the internet with a debit card. Credit cards have inbuilt protection, debit cards don't. If money is debited without your knowledge you may well struggle to get it back. With a credit card you can initiate a chargeback which automatically refunds you unless there is a very good reason why not.

Really? sctatchinghead

I didn't know that.

I just know that I think credit cards are rotten.

They're not intrinsically rotten, the banks are though so play them at their own game.

Have a credit card for no other reason that buying online. Make sure you pay it in full every time you get a statement then there is no interest to pay. In the meantime you keep the money in your account.

A mate of mine had two credit cards each with a cheque book. He used one card and drew the entire £5000 credit limit then when the statement came he paid it off with a cheque from the other card. When that statement came he paid it with a cheque from card A and so on and so on. He eventually paid them both off but in the meantime he had a £5000 loan for three years for absolutely now't.

The main reason I have one is for hiring cars when I go to Spain.

Using it for online shopping too could be the future.

I had a bad experience in Australia with hiring a car with a credit card off Hertz. It was hired at Sydney airport and dropped off at Cairns Airport where there was no one to receive it and just a box on the Hertz reception desk for the keys.

When I got home I got an invoice for the hire which said the car had been damaged (which it hadn't) and my credit card would be charged the £300 excess on the insurance I took out with the hire. They'd taken my credit card details when I picked the car up so they could do that automatically.

I tried to get in touch but if you look on the Hertz web site it's very hard to find out where you go to complain. I eventually found that their customer services desk is in Ireland and contacted them and they eventually sorted it out but it had me sweating on 300 quid for a while.

Dead dodgy giving out your credit card details and that was with a reputable global company like Hertz.

I didn't know that either - sounds like a good tip - thanks.

I have 2- a Visa with £10k limit and a Mastercard which I deliberately keep at £250 limit, and for stuff like that I only ever give them the Mastercard details so that I can't get too fleeced if things go a bit wrong!
