Well I was doing a lot of motorway in it and it gave me perhaps 33mpg. It was a big 1900cc engine though. Nice as in smooth, comfortable, handles easy, good dash, quick, yoghurt holder.....

I wouldn't have a Peugeot given Salty. Had two company cars that were Peugeot, I was on first name terms with the local dealer and they knew who I was when I rang before I gave them my name I was in there for repairs that often.

Plus they're French.

You'll not go far wrong with a Ford Escort.

Escort is a good shout Ripper. Parts for them are dirt cheap and they're pretty easy to work on I'm told.

When purchasing a 2nd hand car always check out the following as an essential thing.

(1) How much will new tyres cost you for it

(2) How much will new brakes cost you for it

and

(3) How much will a new exhaust cost.

You phone knobfit up and ask for a price for a full sysytem with a CAT for the escort previously mentioned and then gauge whether or not it's worth it - you will not believe how much they are. refred

These are the 3 things that need changing 'first' in cars and you should therefore use them to assist you with your choice.

I'd always avoid French or Italian cars. The parts back up in all cases is atrocious.

Mondeos are really reliable - at least my family's found that. We went from Fiestas to Sierras to Mondeos and not one's broken down for us.

Avoid French cars like the plague - plastic everywhere, duff brakes, bad electronics. Ever-reliable is the VW or Audi

French cars a great, I had a peugeot 306 XL, no fancy dan electrics or other bits, went on and on, 106000 miles as do most peugeots

My current 'car' decided to leave its clutch all over the road on the way to work on Tuesday , £490 to fix, i'm going to trade the mother in for another Pug

Bunch of arse

watch front tyres for early or uneven wear, wishbone and cv joint issues.

if a diesel it'll be good for 250000 miles.

happy motoring bucko

I know it's a girl's car, but my Corsa is fantastic. Now done around 120000 miles, it's a '93 K reg and it's still going strong. Probably won't start next time I get in it!

Not in ALL cases!

Having said that I wouldn't touch a Renault with a bargepole. Citroens are OK though. Half of them are the same as Peugeots with a different grille and badge.

Maybe not so bad when you live in France but remember I've worked in vehicle leasing for years so I can speak with some authority on which manufacturers back up their products and which don't.

French and Eyties keep minimal stock levels in the UK and work on a 'just in time' basis. Unfortunately it is only 'just on time' occasionally. I have seen cars and vans stuck in dealers for weeks waiting for a fairly minor repair but are 'awaiting parts' There have been more times than I care to remember when I have authorised non manufacturer parts to be fitted at our own cost on a warranty repair simply because of the length of time a vehicle is going to be off the road waiting for the bit to arrive.

A damn good car. I have ran hundreds of Corsas on fleets and I don't remember a bad 'un. Cheap to buy, service and run. And if you're a girl - easy to park too
