Don’t know if it's been mentioned on here but congratulations to Steve Howard who has been selected for Scotland’s B team to play Ireland on the 20th November at Airdrie.
3 English-born players have been called up, all from the North East. Chris Armstrong born in Newcastle, James Morrison born in *arlington and Steve born in Durham.

What a load of codswallop. Do these three players really consider themselves Scottish? Were they born there? Have they ever lived there? Do they even support Scotland?

My sentiments exactly. One of the reasons why a lot of people are disillusioned with international football.

Anyone remember the Borers "Slaven for Scotland" campaign? Didn't stop him playing for Eire when the call came though did it....

To be honest I say good on Steve H, he's gone from being in non-league and then target for the Mill House Moaners to the Premier (OK with Derby, but he's still there) and International Honours. OK he isn't Scottish, but I suspect like most footballers below the very top of the game his ambition has always to play at the highest level possible - I doubt England are going to call him up, so why not? It does make International Football look a bit odd, but it always has.... there were a number of South Americans that played for Italy (and possibly Spain) in days of yore (like the 30s), and I'm sure I read that even the Mightiest Magyar Puskas played for Spain at the end of his career. England have been known to do the same - Hargreaves is a recent example, he's Canadian and could also have played for Wales or Germany before England picked him....

Good luck to him I say. The rule that presumably makes Howard eligible is a Scottish parent or grandparent.

Some of you may know that our lass is a Scot, and is expecting our first child. Now if our son/daughter turns out to be good at a sport of any kind, I would be proud as punch to see them represent England OR Scotland. It doesn't matter.

Similarly, if our son/daughter has a child who is any good at a sport I would be proud as punch to see them represent England OR Scotland. It doesn't matter.

In fact I'm thinking of putting a bet on when the bairn is born to say they will represent either country for some sport. Surely they'll have a good chance at something obscure like Kabbaddi?
