I don't think it was baffling. I think he tried to keep his options open when Ben Clark was injured by dropping Robson back to defence and bringing on a replacement winger and a forward. It clearly didn't work but I think there was some logic in it.

ANY form of encouragement is good for the team -- players, manager, assistant, and even kit man included.

What the fook does it matter? The team is being encouraged and once he runs on the pitch the Danny Wilson's Blue & White Army chant will be for him too. He should be champing at the bit for the chance to run into such an atmosphere.
