You know when you see a watch that advertises 21 jewels in the workings of it. Whats the point? what does some obscure semi precious stone do to a watch?

Aren't they used as the material for 'bearings' for the various spindles in a watch? That's what I've always been led to believe - could be totally wrong.

You are correct. More bearings means more gearing, means more accuracy.... also means more to go wrong :wink:
