Its a bit late 1980's, early 1990's for me; and it was fantastic.
Lots of stories, ridiculous ones. We tried to turn our house in London into a mexican restaurant, stood outside and invited everyone in. We thought we had a neon sign on the top of the house. Fortunately no'one came in. And anyway we hadnt even cooked any food; hadnt thought that far ahead.
Then there was the time me and three hard glaswegians were chased by hundreds of evil and angry squirrels over Streatham Common, all the way home, closing the front door just in the nick of time, terrified.
I also remember swimming, fully clothed, in the sea of Crete in the morning, Dr Martens and everything; someone coming up to me and saying arent you supposed to be at work? It had been a late night into the morning job. I walked along the beach to my job, clothes and body dripping, dr martens in hand, tripping my nut off; then promptly got the sack.
Lots more stories.
Unsurprisingly I would never take it again. You're lucky to come out the other end with your brain intact if you've taken it a few times.

Whoooaaa yer fucker
flashback
I remember some bloke coming up to us in the bar in Crete and waving his hands in front of our faces as we stood there open mouthed, amazed at the swirling patterns. Then his grin and him walking off, and us stood there thinking, does he know we're on acid, then the paranoia bit, like, does everyone in this place know we've taken acid?
The most intense senses
The funniest laughs
The worst paranoia
Never liked that fucking job anyway

You can only really be in a position to judge the positive and negatives of recreational drugs if you've taken them, cos believe me they can be fkin brilliant.

But all smackheads should be hung.

I've never murdered anyone but I've got an opinion on it ..... what's the difference between a 'recreational' drug user and a smackhead..? One has a nice middle class term to cover their habit with a veneer of control and one hasn't. A life that needs drugs to make it 'enjoyable' is a life that is missing something somewhere down the line.

you don't take them to make your life enjoyable. they just liven up the bits where you're not doing anything. it's only when you take them when you're meant to be doing something when it becomes a problem.

heh i was taking the mick.

obviously 'doing anything' includes being a parent, having responsibilities, doing your job properly, having a social life, etc. if you find yourself with none of that to worry about, then have some drugs if you want.

Ah Snowy - the man that doesnt drink alcohol I take it?
Because alcohol is a recreational drug you know. Its a mood altering substance which is what a drug is. Or are you going along the lines of whats legal and whats not? Because if you are, then I take it you dont drive over the speed limit because thats illegal you know.
And by my reckoning, driving 45 mph in a 30 mph limit, or 90 in a 70 is far more likely to cause damage to someone else than taking a few tabs of acid or most other drugs.
I take your point about heroin though. The amount of people that think drugs are fine, except heroin which is disgusting, is amazing. Like people want to be a 'smackhead' when they grow up. If you take drugs I think you should understand that some people go further along the path and end up losing control to something that destroys individuals and communities. I think heroin is disgusting but I dont think that about users, only dealers. I dont think lsd, cannabis and ecstasy are disgusting and ruin communities though I wouldnt advocate them being open and accessible to everyone.

And continuing the alcohol analogy - some people are perfectly ok with social drinking and others become hooked and become alcoholics. This may be down to an addictive personality or using drink to escape from reality which for some people may be otherwise unavoidable. This may be escaping from depression, stress, pain, illness, abusive relationship(s) amongst other factors.
Most of the data I have come across (as a social worker) suggests that drink other than in moderation causes more damage to the body than drugs, generally speaking, Heroin is an obvious exception.
The point about alcohol being legal is a good one as this makes it legitimate to advertise and push, even to youngsters as seen by the demand for alcopops. The drinks industry can get away with this as it employs many people, is a strong player in the stock exchange, pays for vast amounts of sdvertising and brings in much needed money in the form of duty / taxes for the government of the day.
Newspapers are quick to report on drug related crimes - I've no problem with that, but seem more reluctant to report alcohol related crime in the same way as much of their revenue comes from the alcohol industry in the way of advertising.
It used to be that religion is the opium of the masses, nowadays it seems that opium is the opium of the masses.

I just think Snowy is either playing Devil's Advocate, just being a pretentious anus or really is so blinkered so that what he believes or does is the only way people should live their lives.

I wouldn't particularly call it spouting.

I dont do it all the time - in fact not for 7 years.

my choice you see.

People of all ages make their own choices - nothing to do with me - I care but I don't give a feck.

As if anyone pays any attention to what i fookin say anyway.

Now be a good man an get to bed early and make sure you catch that sunrise in the morning cos it'll be a good 'un and i'll be down having a look whilst I am rockhopping.

If my kids followed my lead I would educate them on the dangers and other effects of drugs and why people use them. I would understand that millions of people use drugs and come to no harm. I would do exactly the same with alcohol and cigarettes as I believe both can be just as dangerous, if not more, than "recreational" drugs.
And I would cross my fingers for them.
In all circumstances I would speak openly to my children as I believe that is more honest and safe than simple condemning.

I'm afraid the old clouding the waters routine won't work in my case, in fact it'll backfire.........
rolfl ... becuse actually I don't drink at all, my childhood showed to me what a shitty mess 'drink' can make of your life and those who depend on you ... Speeding..? I was a witness in a road 'accident' where a young lady was decapitated by another motorist, when you have your own kids, the thought of that happening to them or anyone is hoorific...the memory really does haunt me,I've never had a point on my licence ever.
I wonder what path smackheads go down when they start, don't they start on cannabis road? ...cause and effect.

Funny how if you ever question anyone on this subject they accuse you of trying to organise their lives. As for getting up to see the sunrise, I was out photographing those glorious pink clouds this morning, out of my skull on Silver shred on toast. Life really is good when you strip away the 'distractions'
