What's the crime situation in your neck of the woods? Just seen this clip of these twats mugging people as the get off buses somewhere in China.

Seems far worse than anything we would get in the UK?

but if this is happening repeatedly at the same place, they are obviously taking a leaf out of the police books in this country, and doing f**k all about it!!

I hear about very little crime although our rass does say 'mind your wallet, camera etc' at regular intervals. Compared to little Chinese women I'm a bit of a challenge being bigger than the average local by some way.

The Police here can sentence you to 4 years labour without recourse to the courts, it's called liao jiao (rehabilitation by labour) so most people don't fu ck about. The ones you saw were probably paying the Police to look the other way as members of an organised gang but there's a huge crackdown on that leading up to the Olympics. I'd have to wonder how old that film clip is.

Just what I was thinking. No sign of any violent crime when I was there - except criminal taxi driveress's!!!!

I suppose your bag would go missing if it was left but that's it.

Incidentally some idiots tried to rob my mate in Saigon when he was pissed. He backhanded one clean off the bike and kicked another's teeth in! Fair play!

Just a bit further on from that, I'm surprised that I rarely see anyone with any sign of injury, y'know pots on, people with surgical collars, crutches etc. You do see the occasional bandage or dressing on people but facial bruising or anything just doesn't seem to happen very often.

On crime though, they caught a woman on camera nicking bicycles out of bike sheds in the city and she got hammered. They seem to find more dignified methods of making money than crime.

There's big festival just behind our estate, organised by the local government, the river road is lined with stalls selling regional speciality foods and they wanted street cleaners to work for two weeks. The queue was round the block.

I've been watching Paul Merton in China with some interest, when he visited Beijing the shanty towns would at first sight appear to be a potential hotbed for criminals - but the people were very honest and hard working, despite not seeming to have much in the way of material possessions.
