Got an acknowledgement letter from Aramark, but not really bothered. I'm going for admin jobs.

Found some contacts in Aberdeen who have sent my cv out to their contacts. So, fingers crossed they'll push it for me and put me to the top of the pile.

Well they do if you call 25K pa (with half the year off) for an unskilled worker crap money....

Just what I got told. I'm not proud, I'd happily start anywhere, but if I can start in admin then that would be better. Fingers crossed anyway.

With all due respects i dont think its worthy to congratulate someone on packing in a job confised, if the said person had something else lined up then fair dos.

I think if someone is suitably pi$$ed off with their job, it is getting them down and they are in a position to chuck it I say well done to them. If it is a genuine gripe it may make the company improve conditions and be a better employer. I don't get the impression that Tigga is just doing this to be an idle, unemployed dosser. Many people in this situation reappraise their lives and go onwards and upwards – good luck to Miss Tigga.

Last summer I packed my job in with nowt lined up as I was bored, pissed off and fancied a change. I was lucky enough to have some savings to tide me over for a couple of months, and it was one of the best things I've ever done.

I went out the other night with a load of people who I used to work with. 2 of them were made redundant recently, and I'm happy to say they've both got better jobs with more money and prospects. They both said they had no motivation to get a job previously, stuck in a rut and all that.

Sometimes you have to get yourself out of a situation to see it objectively. Good luck Miss Tigga, enjoy your free time and I've no doubt you will get something much better than you were doing before. The right kind of employer will appreciate your attitude.

Just to clear up any confusion,Miss Tigga has wrapped a job that she was unhappy with to pursue another option, she has not packed in to become a layabout.
I for one applaud her for doing something to change her career instead of just ambling along.

It's true, I'm not becoming a lay about. I left work on Friday and already have a weeks training this Monday with the prospects of entering a new career. Also, I have two jobs, so before I handed my notice in I contacted my manager of the pother job and sorted out extra shifts and hours with them as I didn't want to become a lay about.
Also, as PIN says, I have a bit of savings to tie me over and I wasn't motivated enough to look while I was stuck there in a rut.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Good luck, Miss Tigga and well done...too many people waste their lives in boring jobs and don't do anything about it. You'll still post on the board tho, won't you, when you've gone off to pastures new?

I know if I wasn't married, I would definitely take the bull by the horns and have a look at the World, sell the houses and clear off for a year or so, and see what happened. I know a couple of lads who've done this and settled down in more tropical climes, and don't regret it either.

I agree here.

Dead end jobs or ones you don't like are all too easy just to go through the motions in.

What can some people say they've done.

Went to work in job they hated year in and year out.

Or actually did something, made an impression, an impact, did something unique, made people happy, better or comfortable.

I (and groovy) know a lad who took his redundancy, sold his concours VW camper and went round the world for a year. top geezer.

he is now running his own business and is happy as f and one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet.

Here he is in NZ

I was an accounts and finance manager for a small manufacturing company. I didn't mind the work, I was just under paid and taken a lot for granted.

A rut is easy to get into but virtually impossible to get out of for most people, Travelling is something I wished I had done when I was younger but with credit cards, relationships and pissing up my money like most other people its something that feels a long way off and impossible....
