Me mam worked part-time at "the Cerebos" in the early 1970s, and used to bring home loads of tinned soup with no labels on them. A list of which numbers stamped on the can signified what flavour was inside it was distributed round Hartlepool every Friday faster than a monkey running out of the town...!

These were a bit hit and miss if I recall it right, and the code you thought was chicken turned out to be minestrone or some other variety.

And if you were driving out of Greatham around finishing time you ended up in a queue back to the Smiths Arms. And that was before the traffic lights were put in at Sappers Corner! Lucky to get home for Corrie

Yep. Cerebos was Cerebos salt originally and then became RHM. My Auntie had a beautiful clock on her mantelpiece which was presented to her on her retirement from Cerebos.
A friend of ours used to keep us supplied with unlabelled tins of soup.

It then became Sharwoods. There were some attractive ladies in the offices as i recall.

I forgot about Sharwoods.

And Campbels soup.

When we first got married my mam bought us a three piece suite from there and in the packaging when it arrived was a bulging brown envelope full of co-op stamps…seriously my tongue was turning to sand paper with my lick n stick technique ….it only came to just over £6 when cashed in

Would happily forgo the roof to have that lot back in the town centre!

Went on some great trips with my Gran and younger brother in the summer holidays, great memories, mind you the mystery tours were a bit hit and miss.
But a good laugh all the same.
The worst part was if it was raining where you went, you felt as if time stood still until you got back to the bus.
Still made you appreciate the smaller things in life.

Coach load of people went on a mystery tour, they had a raffle to guess where they were going, the driver won it !

It always seemed to include a stop at Skipton.

must have employed better drivers than some i have known or more knowledgeable passengers. think the best one was a passenger who came up to the front and told me i had gone the wrong way on a mysters tour as the driver the week before went a different way. could not wait to get back into the canteen to tell that one.
