Jish, I bought that Broadcast album, had high hopes for it after reading reviews. And I was so disappointed in it; thought it was diluted, watery, lightweight and uninspiring. Tried it again six months later and thought the same; only got about four or five songs in and couldnt do anymore. Maybe I should try it again??

Alex Delivery's album Star Destroyer, my favourite album in 10 years or so - can't stop playing it. Not heard of them before I got the album (someone gave it to me). Very strange & quite original - there a a few clips of them live on You Tube.

Young marble Giants Colossal Youth and Collected Works CD reissue (2007) - can't manage the picture thing but this 3 cd pack containing the legendary Colossal Youth LP + Salad Days LP + Peel stuff and singles is spinning on my player right now and is, for anyone who likes a bit of minimalist post punk, awesome stuff. And all for £12.99 in yer local HMV. That has just got to be value. Dare say even cheaper on line. If you like Being Boiled you'll love this, really . . . .

Agreed Andyp, agreed!

On the easy listening front, I offer Boz Scaggs 'Slow Dancer' (his only truly great album). Lovely in the car making me way home tonight.

Just now it's Frankie Miller - Long Way Home. A cracking album and an absolute surprise when it came out. I thought he'd given up but this is a real return to form.

Bloody hell ! Long Way Home was playing in a shoe shop in Durham this afty ! I thought I recognised the voice - but I had to ask the guy what the album was.

Playing some Rab Noakes tonight - Never Too Late, which I've finally copied from vinyl.

How does vinyl sound on the i-Pod/mp3? Have often wondered if it would be worth buying a USB turntable. My worry is background noise although I still think vinyl beats all other sources for musical enjoyment on the hi-fi.

The sound's a bit quiet and flat WhiteLight, I recorded it direct onto a CD recorder from a turntable though rather than use one of those USB turntables, which I understand come with lots software bobbins to increase sound levels etc etc etc.

I think I'd only copy something that a) wasn't available on CD and b) where decent sound quality wasn't an issue.

Agree with you about vinyl - saw the Mingus Big Band a few weeks ago and they had copies of Blues and Roots on vinyl for sale .... which I'm now regretting not buying !

The Essential Michael Nyman - I don't do classical but this guy's a national treasure. Movin' doesn't even start to describe the mans music. And perfect for a Sunday evenin'.

Not a patch on their previous two but Tracyanne Campbell is wonderful so I forgive them.

Currently listening to...

Bon Iver's beautifully stark LP For Emma, Forever Ago. It's sounds like a mix between TV On The Radio and Iron & Wine, highly recommended.

Also can't get enough of Yann Tiersen's Amelie soundtrack or Scott Walker's Scott 3.

They certainly have. But my abiding memory of that album was from a morning in Wales. I had arrived at a friend's house in Southampton and she said she was worried about a mate of hers who was up in an old caravan in the Cambrian mountains in mid-Wales. He'd taken some mushrooms and was in a state of paranoia. So we turned round straight away and headed up to Wales and got there late at night after struggling to find this lone caravan in the middle of nowhere. We had a relaxing evening with the bloke, listening to music. We were on a intrumental kick at the time. I remember playing through Labradford's Mi Media Naranja a couple of times. Next morning we put the bloke in the car to drive him back to the south coast and without thinking we but GYBE! on. He's lying with a coat over him on the back seat, fighting paranoia, and The Dead Flag Blues was washing out of the stereo. Not the best choice. :uhoh:

Chip, you'd like the ATP Festival lineup next spring. Explosions In the Sky are curating. Iron and Wine already confirmed too.

http://www.atpfestival.com/events/explosions/

That songs enough to give anyone nightmares - an ex-girlfriend of mine described it as 'weird paedophile music' when I played it to her (we soon parted ways). Good choice with Labradford, quality. Check out a band called Stars of the Lid, I think you might like them.

Any particular recommendations? I've got a couple of SOTL tracks on compilations from Kranky Records (also featuring GY!BE, Low, Bowery Electric...) and it's good stuff, but haven't heard a lot else.

A good place to start is their latest one Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline. Perfect chillout music.

Little Annie - Short and Sweet. You can't beat a bit of On-U-Sound. Sherwood's an absolute genius.

Cant argue with that.
Am I right in thinking Little Annie was formerly Annie Anxiety who recorded on Crass records ?

Believe so GC. This is like hardcore portishead though - very dubby and very very good.

Very very annoyed that we missed the Don't Look Back show a year or so ago

I was going to go to Teenage Fanclub's 'Bandwagonesque' night but monetary difficulties dictated otherwise. I didn't even realise Tindersticks were playing, let alone playing their second album in its entirety! Such an amazing record; I was watching The Sopranos 1st series last week and 'Tiny Tears' was played on one of the episodes and it reminded me just how good they were. By all accounts Staples is writing new stuff to perform under the Tindersticks mantle, let's hope it happens.
