I was at that very gig mr Kev, though I was too stoned to be in the mosh-pit.
It was a great Reading if I remember right (and it might be that I dont - where the Pixies at at that one?) but the old master taught the young bands how to do it.

Fun House was on my turntable in 1970 thanks to an older collegue at work along with Beefheart/Steve Miller/Johnny Winter/Blue Cheer/Canonball Adderley amongst others. I have stuck with all but Blue Cheer to this day. For my part I introduced him to Moondog [;)]

Johnny Cash prison albums immense - but the American albums are all top drawer and there's absolutely nowt wrong with comin' to an artist late. Musical snobbery does no one no good.

Feel Like Goin' Home by Charlie Rich is the best song ever and by my reckoning that's country (and what a voice that man has).

I'm away to listen to Tago Mago bbolt

I've got them mixed up!!  Iggy was on in 1991, headlined the Friday and the Pixies headlined Sunday in 1990. I'd got confused by the Cramps doing Friday in 1990.

Kenny 'the Gambler' Rogers backs England
By Nick Britten and Stephen Adams
Last Updated: 3:09am BST 12/10/2007

England's rugby players are to receive a personal message of support from the country singer Kenny Rogers after they adopted one of his songs as their unofficial World Cup anthem.

The Gambler has become a big hit in the England dressing room during the team's time in France, with the squad listening to it before taking to the pitch for their games.

Rogers said he was delighted his song had helped the team

Matt Stevens, the prop, began playing the song on his guitar in their hotel and now it has become a staple part of the team's evening sing-alongs and pre-match build-up.

Martin Corry, the flanker, said the players were particularly taken by the lines: "You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em; Know when to walk away and know when to run."

After The Daily Telegraph highlighted the unlikely inspiration for England's march to the semi-finals, Rogers yesterday said he was delighted his song had helped the team.

And he plans to record a video message of support that will be shown to the players before their match against France on Saturday.

Yesterday, in a message addressed to the players, Rogers said: "The Daily Telegraph told me that before you beat the Australians in your last game you were all singing along to The Gambler.

"I don't know a whole lot about rugby but it's a song that means a lot to me and I'm mighty proud that you guys found something in it to be your inspiration."

Rogers' message
England fans buying tickets for the game from disappointed Australians are also taking a gamble and have been warned that they may be refused entry to the Stade de France in Paris.

Australians who bought semi-final tickets prior to the tournament have been keen to sell them in the wake of their 12-10 defeat to England in the quarter-finals.

Hundreds have appeared on internet auction sites, while many more are expected to be touted in Paris in the next three days but the International Rugby Board said tickets had the original buyer's name on them and were non-transferable. If checks at the turnstile are carried out and the person with the ticket does not match the name on it, they will be not be allowed in.

shocking that. If they get the vendors to sign a little waiver/disclaimer that they have transferred the tickets then they should get in. Buracratic arse-holes.

They always say that. I've been to numerous world cup, Euro's, Wimbledon etc with second hand tickets. I've yet to see anyone check.
