if that result is correct or we hammer them the same its not to say the season will continue the same way. too much is put on the first game of the season always and at every club who plays football. its no more important than aby other game we,ll play.

We got beat last season at Barnet.
Then recovered to 15 pts from first 7 then the 2 injuries excuse kicked in because of a lack of quality on the bench.

First choice 11 when fully fit looks Very Good on paper apart from Dixon if he's 1st choice.
But the lack of 2 Qs in reserve is quite concerning.

These loanies are going to have to be absolute mint for a change.

Cautious optimism and 1 game at a time from KPG.

I don't think the 500 Southend fans will go home pointless either.

Then anutha toughy at Tamworth.

But LF thinks its an easy August

Tamworth are still part time ffs if you that’s ‘another toughy’ we may as well pack up now

Who said said Tamworth would be a tough game.

Me.
Hopefully you tell me I called it wrong at the promotion party.

To be honest, I would be disappointed if Tamworth beat us, Think even full time promoted clubs may find it hard, Till they adjust.

We absolutely should be winning this one, obviously anything can happen in a one off game result wise but if we aren’t clearly superior to this lot eyebrows will be raised

Agree.
Their defence is the same as last season,so may struggle at this level.
They’ve a signed a 30 year old journeyman forward & a young un from Torquay,while we have Mani D & Campbell.
I’d be very disappointed if we got beat.

Dorking Wanderers were part time and we lost at home to them. Was it 0-2? Part time does not necessarily mean weak.
As for the Yeovil game who knows, we dont have recent form to look at (friendly fixtures dont count in my view) so anything could happen. I think Sarl has us properly organized so I dont think we will get hammered but other than that, no idea.

Campbells yellow card for taking a corner outside the quadrant.
Then pushing it 3ft above the quadrant for the retake.
Obviously taking the piss.

Massive win. Never easy against promoted sides as sutton found out at Tamworth today. Another tough one next week. Hopefully that win will put extra 500 on the gate.

That was a team working, I love to see that.
I also love the commentators from Radio Yokel , they do talk some bollocks…they praised one substitute coming on as brilliant with his electric pace…..if he was that good why wasn’t he on from the start sctatchinghead
Joel Grey has got strength he never had, we looked like a team who come to the Vic and piss us off, now we can enjoy the feeling.

Knew it wouldn't be easy. One game, One nil, clean sheet and three points.
Restricting a home side to one shot on target in 90 plus 36 mins added on is a good away stat.
Dixon did ok apart from that one flap right at the end.

Never seen pools press that good to be honest really put alot of work in.
Midfield was good how ever we need some one in there to control the pace of the game and knock it about.
Overall very pleased with the effort and a good start to the season.

Don't think Dixon was at fault for the "flap" he came a long way to claim it then Mani O got in his way. Parkes was tearing into Mani O which suggests he thought he was at fault.
Not pretty to watch but effective and the shithousery we played was nice to see to play the game out. Good hard working performances without anyone being stand out imo.

It was a revelation to see us harrying the opposition, a nice change from us chasing shadows for several seasons.
The team is disciplined, no more wandering about, you get a job to do and you do it.
That’s what I like to see.

Just watched mark coopers interview on Twitter…. What a 'lovely lovely person'

We should have been down to 10 men in the first minute, they controlled the game
And missed an open goal at the end, and general implication we weren’t much cop, along with some other shite
Always thought he was a tosser

Why do managers show themselves up like that, To me the score line flattered Yeovil.

The Yeovil manager said "... they're a team of men, very physical....".

Well done Sarll, your pre season words have been put into action.

Reminds me of when Chesterfield came to our place last season. Team of big strong blokes. We had possession but not a sniff of goal. They were not spectacular at all but took their goal clinically and efficiently went home with 3 points. I've been busting for us to be like that and have opposition managers moaning about it.

Agree
We complained last season about lack of speed in midfield
We have it
Not enough players in the box we got it
Being reactive rather than proactive we got it
Not physical enough, doing the dirty things we did it
Not being savvy enough, we did it with Dixon and parked feigning injury and sarll getting booked
And finally a decent defence, all 5 very solid
Yes we didn’t play attractive football but Yeovil’s defence was solid like ours. They did their work on Mani and Grey. But, we fought like tigers 100% effort from everyone . Sarll did what he says on the tin. Not many teams will travel that distance and take 3 points. Well done lads that performance is a good marker for the season and we will play better. Tactically we were spot on.

Thought Hunter was class yesterday, pressing constantly but always looking over his shoulder and making sure his teammates were closing down spaces.
It looks like we've now not just got physicality but there's a number of leaders in the side too.
Got to say the subs didn't seem to weaken us either.

been waiting for this for years. next thing i want to hear from a defeated manager is them saying they would not use tactics like ours to win a match. know its only one game but that gives more hope for the future and something to build on. that goes down to recruitment as well. a good player would rather sign for a winning team than a struggling one if the money offered is decent.

Yep, saw the interview from the Yeovil manager. Sour grapes son, our managers tactics stopped you guys from playing. It wasn’t pretty? But who cares. There was only one team in it on the front foot for the first 75 mins and it wasn’t them . They had their first short on target after 85 minutes. Why was that ? Because our lads worked their nuts of closing them down and every opportunity. End of story!

could add askeys macclesfield to those. feel we have more players who can turn it on as individuals than either of those 3 had.

I was having the same problem as you in that I had paid my tenner, reregistered but the schedule was asking me to pay again. I then realised I had to log in and voila the game was available. The game was also being shown on my IPTV but took 15 mins to appear. That’s why better to pay.

My sentiments exactly. Last year at times we played some nice football but it’s pointless if you score then invite the opposition on to you. Sarlls mentality. Is you just don’t give the opposition time on the ball so they cannot get any rhythm going. Our pressing was relentless and he only allowed Yeovil in to the game when after 75 minutes when he shut up shop with a 6 man defence. Even Mani was defending at the end and doing a great job.

More of the same against Southend Mr Sarll . I couldn’t care less how we play and let’s take the roof off at the Vic and really get behind the lads. We must really appreciate effort and hard work

Spot on Harrogate

yes, and i,d guess already that victory would put a few hundred on the gate next saturday. 500 extra turning up would give the club about £10,000 less VAT of course extra than a defeat would have seen.

We have been soft touches for way too long. Especially in midfield hopefully yesterday was signs of better things to come. It doesnt look like were going to be great to watch, but who cares if we are winning.

Only seen a couple of minutes of highlights but there's a few choice tackles. Tom Crawford used to try to clean people out, bless him, but he just couldn't go in hard enough.

Might need a bigger squad to cover all the suspensions.

Just shows how important a semi decent midfield is.
Hopefully not as. MAny injuries as last season which should be impossible.
UTP.

and that was a victory without a full squad to pick from.

Yup,just wait until Mancini & Sloggett are back to full fitness.
