I never thought id be praising the lad but yes he has been a breath of fresh air - he found space and runs at times at the weekend but our crab of a midfield never bothered to look any further than the yards around them to make the pass. Thats the difference at any level for a midfielder for me. The ability to see and make a pass. Hastie at times was miles ahead of his other team mates in his thinking (this is probs that raw ability we expected coming from such a club as Rangers). He just needs to graft a little harder and not be pushed off the ball as easy and i think we may have another situation come the end of the season where we dont want the lad to leave !

it does show how much of a mess the club was in during the hartley months regarding training. it must have been a real joke and a boom time for the lazy or those who dislike training. it cannot be a coincidence that we saw improvements first with murray and now hastie after they left. even patterson has decent games now but unfortunetly he cannot repeat his performance in the next game.

Its not just Patterson who can,t repeat his performance, Its the whole lot bar 1 or 2

The best example of exactly what you are talking about there in certain Pools players would surely be Peter Beardsley..?

Like boxers losing their punch resistance first, it's pace with footballers - but the skills of both last a wee bit longer. I saw Beardsley make many world-class through balls at Pools, only to be missed altogether by the donkey he'd laid it on to being too dumb to anticipate its target - which was an inch away from his shooting foot if he'd anticipated it correctly.

There was no doubt Beardsley thoughts were way ahead of Pools players at times what would you expect but the bottom line was that he was not a success at Pools.

think you have answered your own question. i for one have always gone with the theory of signing players from the same division that you play in. many cannot make the step upwards like others can only play with others of the same standard and look poor in a side that hasn,t their thinking or playing ability. too many fans expect em to work a miracle because of their past.

Similar Jan Ove Pedersen, he would play a ball through to an open space expecting some one to run on to it but the Pools players unfortunately didn't have the same vision as him.

Difference was Pederson was outstanding Beardsley was’nt. I don’t agree that Pools players didn’t connect with Pedersons vision the team played well with him in the side.

Pedersen…a pleasure just to watch him perform on the pitch.
